Derby, Western, Fedora...a Venerable Legend, THE Stetson 3X...BEFORE 1970!!!!

Great score! The interplay between the felt, ribbon, and wind trolley tones is perfect.

+1 on this. I think I am ready to part with a few shorter brims too. My best 2" brim is my Optimo. That one I am not parting with.

How many hats do you have?

Around 40 if we count the few disassembled and not yet built hats. A good mix of vintage, modern, and custom.

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

Affirmative on the stand. I cheated and used my custom band block for the final sizing and trim, and when I made the first real cut with the brim jack, I realized why this was not the greatest plan. The "foot" of the rounding jack is going to cut according to the band block, because that's what...

Also, Randal Alan does offer individual band blocks for $25. He calls them "brim plates" for some reason, but you can order them individually from the 52 block listing...

Hats in the rain, do they bleed so to speak?

Well that's unfortunate to hear. The Premier Strat was resurrected by sometimes Lounger Matt Deckard. Stetson has and does use finishing powders, but it seemed to have been less prevalent in recent years.

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

You could probably jury rig a flat flange if the a completely flat brim is what you want. But the inside hole of the flange is convex to allow for the trimmings, and there is a bottom indentation on the outside to secure a hatter's cord. I would say you need a foot tolliker more than a runner...

pick a hatter and send them that picture. It's kind of hard because that's not a real hat,but you probably want something with a 2 1/4" - 2 3/8" brim.

The vintage hats on eBay are mostly from the 60's. You seem pretty set on that specific shape though, so getting a custom might be worth the effort.

    Black Sheep Hat Works

I've got two hats with Bob, an old black Stetson No. 1 I bought from Garrett, and a new custom build. This one will decidedly NOT be vintage styled, so it might not be to everyone else's tastes, but, you know, it's my hat. :p A particularly dark black cherry felt with some vintage Japanese...

Hats by the 100 has a mixed record with shipping to the US. Several folks have experienced issues, including an inadequately sized box. Hatsdirect is a reputable seller as is everything Australian, though the latter often has longer lead times because they don't have all models in stock.

To Joe Public on the street who doesn't know anything about hats? Maybe. To anyone in Australia or somewhere where Cowboy hats are common? Not likely.

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

This was basically the 'issue' some folks were having with some of the earlier versions of the Herbert Johnson rebooted Indy Poets. The "screen accurate" proportions of Harrison Ford's hat doesn't work on everybody. It's a tall crown and very boxy. With the graduated set of blocks, my 56cm/size...

    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

If you haven't read Scientific Hat Finishing, start there. https://archive.org/details/scientifichatfin00erma You'll need a flange stand as well, although you can probably rig something up yourself if you have basic woodworking skills.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Thanks gents! According to the science-y person on NPR, the orange is the result of a confluence of wildfire smoke in the upper atmosphere which is diffusing the normally blue sky. I live in the southwest part of SF near-ish to the coast, and it seemed to be getting clearer as the sun went down.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Hello from the planet Mars The Bay Area woke up to a gloomy orange sky today, it actually got darker from when I woke up. Though as bad as it looks, apparently the air quality is slightly less bad today. My custom build for another day out in the apocalypse.

    Western, anyone?

Hornskov has a hat with a few inches of edge binding, I would wear that! Not everyone's thing, but you know, different strokes and all. I agree though, to me, if the distressed look is the goal, the distressing on a hat just has to make sense. I don't recall if I'm remembering this adage from...
