Got a vintage Porkpie. It's a Dobbs 20. Nice felt. Much less brim than I'm used too. Not sure I can wear it on sunny days. Might be a night hat for clubbing. If I ever go to a club again.
I try to match my hat color to my clothes...brown or tan hats with brown or earth toned outfits and brown shoes. Grey hats with Greyish or black clothes and black or brown shoes. That's about as far as my planning goes.
I'm retired now and wore suits or sport coats and ties for 35ish years or...
My Homburg showed up the other day...It turned out to be a 7 1/8 Long Oval so its not a perfect fit but its in beatiful condition. Can any of you estimate the age from the tags?
Too bad so many pictures are lost from the beginning of this thread. It would be great for research. My Homburg showed up a couple days ago. It is gray not brown. I'm going to try to get some photos. I found the tags under the liner...but the data is faded and illegible. Its going to be hard to...
Won an auction for another Dobbs Twenty. A Homburg this time. The ad said its grey...color balance must have been off on the camera. We'll see in a week or so when it gets here. I really like my other Twenty. Hope this one turns out to be a good one.
I just ordered a Stetsonian from JJ's. I know the Stetsonian has been discontinued for a while...the hat I bought was on clearance so it's very likely it has been sitting in their shop a year or so...but I'll check it out to see if it has the same issue.
Here's a new one on me. Bought a big brimmed Panama, a Don Belisario, for summer use. I've had it about three months. Like it a lot. Used it last week...took the grandbaby strawberry picking. I also have one of those plastic hat boxes so I don't crush the hat when traveling hither and yon in the...
So what is "a poly fiber"? Is it a synthetic and not an actual straw? I picked up one of these a couple weeks ago and if its a synthetic and can stand up to moisture it will change the way I can use it.
Yes, it IS the vendors fault. They chose this delivery system. I guess to save some money. If they had just used USPS then the tracking would have worked (and avoided a lot of frustration on their customer's part) and the product would have been here about a week ago. I hope they saved enough...
But its not REALLY shipped via USPS. They say its shipped USPS and send a USPS tracking number but they use a third party carrier to deliver it to USPS. That's what was so confusing.
For days the only response when tracking was that the Los Angeles post office was waiting for the package. For...
BTW...I ordered this Stratoliner from Village Hat Shop in California on the 29th. Its now May 14th and its not here yet with no ETA. They have the worst shipping system I've ever seen. They offer free shipping but if you order from them be sure to pay for expedited shipping. Their free shipping...
I ordered one last week from Village Hat Shop. Their web site said Stratoliners run large so order one size smaller. It should be here in a day or so...I hope it fits.
BTW...I wondered why its taking so long to get here. I live in North Carolina. I figured that the Village Hat Shop was in...
I don't know of any good stores in Raleigh but there is a place in Greensboro called Mitchell's Clothing. Large selection of hats. The place is run by the original owner and his wife. They're kind of quiet until you get them talking. We ended up buying a handful of straw hats for my son's...
