I just bought a charcoal Banjo Paterson and it's already my favorite hat. I love it so much I want a spare to put in storage. I plan to store it with a hat jack but is it okay to use LEXOl leather conditioner on the "reeded roan sweat band?"
I'm torn between ordering a Banjo Paterson in charcoal or an Angler.
Pics or suggestions would help.
I had an Angler a few years ago, but splashed some chemicals on it and ruined it. I kind of lean toward another, but the Banjo keeps calling me too.
HELP!
I'm told that storing your hats with a hat jack is smart because the wood in the hat jack wicks moisture away from the sweatband. Moisture condensing and drying can cause the sweatband to dry out, so this is probably a good extra little step.
Do any of the Aussie vendors offer to bash an open crown hat for a fee like David Morgan does?
Really I've bashed many of my own hats over the years but I'd kind of like to have a professional job done.
I changed one of my Stetson Hutchins to a fedora bash and it looks a lot like a Campdraft...
Interesting. My hat size is between 7 1/4 (58 cm) and 7 3/8 (59 cm). This means I'm either blessed or cursed with the ability to wear either size most of the time. A lot of 7 3/8 hats are a little big on me, but I usually get that size to allow for shrinkage. A 7 1/4 hat usually fits a...
I decided against ordering a Snowy River because of comments that the crown is a little short, meaning the hat rides higher on the head than, say, a Stetson cowboy hat.
Photos I've seen of both the CD and the Bushman show a lot of guys wearing the hat higher above the ears than I would (I like...
How do the Stylemaster and Bushman differ from the Campdraft?
I'm looking for a traditional fedora shape in the crown, but a wider brim than a normal fedora.
Can the open crowned hats accommodate this?
Which do you recommend?
I agree, but worse than wool in some respects. I've got a 3XXX wool Stetson Hutchins that's seen more abuse than one of Indiana Jones's hats, yet even though the felt is rougher than a new hat it's still not as rough as my buffalo felt Stetson Austral got after just a few wearings.
I'm just...
Fur vs. Quality Wool--that big a difference?
For various reasons I prefer a Stetson over an Akubra. Stetsons tend to be stiffer and more "cowboy" versus "outback."
People tell me a fur hat will far outlast a wool hat, yet my beater Stetson Hutchins 3XXX wool hat has survived the elements...
You already know what I'm going to ask, right?
"How stiff is the brim?"
I recently handled a new buffalo felt Stetson Revenger in a hat shop in Tombstone and I was somewhat disappointed in the brim thickness and styling.
I'm thinking the Akubra "The Boss" might be a better...
I love the look of that hat. How stiff is the brim and does it retain its shape after some use?
I've been wearing this one:
http://www.villagehatshop.com/product/all-fedoras/451139-88190/cotton-safari-hat.html
Pros: I've gotten it soaking wet and if you lay it flat on a table to dry...
I'm looking for a fedora with no wider than a 3" brim with vent holes for cooling. I want it to be wool or fur felt and durable. I do NOT want it to be crushable. I like a stiff hat because it will get rained on...repeatedly.
The Akubra Angler is pretty darn close, and I may just knuckle...
I've been wearing the Jaxon safari hat from Village Hat Shop in the summer because of its light weight. I replaced the cheesy hat band with a puggaree.
I actually prefer a wool or fur felt hat because I like a stiff hat, but those are dang hot in the summer.
Does anyone make a lightweight...
How do you spot a fake leather sweat band?
My "day to day" hat is a Stetson Hutchins that I got for not too much money. The other day I turned over the sweat band to reglue part of the liner and noticed that the sweat band had some strange "cross-hatching" on the inside, like it was rolled...
