    Hat making?? Learning Millinery..

Here is my attempt to patch some moth holes (some that went all the way through the felt) on a 3X Beaver Resistol Western. I cut a full inch off the brim and this removed most of the moth damage. The crown had a handful of holes that I attempted to patch with plugs from the trimmed piece. As...

It is not overly difficult to find a 60s/70s western with a 7” crown (when open) that can be shaped to your liking. For example, a Resistol Western Hi-7 3X Beaver or a Stetson Last Drop 3X Beaver come to mind. The larger sizes are more difficult to find but they do show up now and then.

A mild winter makes for early spring fishing and a chance to try out a new to me Akubra Bushman.

    Akubra Overload

Ready for Montana rivers is this new to me 30+ year old Bushman. It was pretty abused with missing liner and hat band and dried out sweatband but it cleaned up and creased nicely. The sweatband is supple again after a couple rounds of Pecard’s. I made a fur felt hat band from a cut down brim...

What hat are you waiting for today?

This one has been sitting around for a few months and I made the seller a crazy low offer that they accepted. No size tag but if the seller’s measurements are accurate it should fit. I’m not a big homburg guy but I’ve been looking for a Disney hat to go with a Disney box I have. The sweatband...

Does anyone have a source for the 3/8” ribbon commonly found on Stetson ORs and Stratoliners?

    Short Brimmed Cowboy

Here is a 60/70s 3X Beaver Stetson with a 3” brim and mule kicks. Looks to be similar in dimensions to your grandfather’s hat. eBay might be your best bet in finding what you want. Good luck in your search!

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

That is a great look! As a young pup I spent many hours in the saddle in those mountains. Not a lot there but rangeland — I remember pushing cattle amongst the creeks Blue, Jack’s, Wickahoney, and Battle and ultimately ending up in Dickshooter at the end of the summer to take them off the...
