I picked up this Panama at a garage sale two blocks from my house. The Mercantile is an old retailer in Missoula and according to my neighbor the hat was purchased there before WWII by a family member who was deployed and didn’t make it back. The hat has been stored in the cork hat box for all...
Yes, definitely Old West. I used a classic Tom Mix as inspiration. The tall crown and shape, wide brim with curl, and wide grosgrain ribbon are like a classic Tom Mix. However, I think a true Tom Mix has brim binding so I guess it is a poor man’s version.
Great job Mark! I enjoyed seeing the battle on this one and love the way it turned out especially with the added brim structure. Can I see a side view of your final crease? On pinch front westerns I sometimes struggle on where to best set the rear crown height.

Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads out there!

The liner and hat pin are missing which could be a significant hit to its value. Also, if I’m not mistaken, the Royal Stetson is the lowest grade fur felt for the Stratoliner. I’ve seen that size tag associated with late 50s or early 60s but I’m no expert on dating.
Condition isn’t great but...
