You know it’s hot when our western Montana rivers are closed to fishing from 2pm to midnight! With this heat I feel like I’m in a different part of the world so the 1940’s Panama seemed the way to go.
Picked up some grass fed beef, a huckleberry pie, and a Stetsonian in my size for $30 at the local farmer’s market this morning. A great start to the day :-).
Sorry @AbbaDatDeHat , no shots of the rig today. I was juggling a 11’ 3wt euro rig and a 9’ 6wt dry rig. A green drake hatch was on so lots of good top water action.
More shots of the hat here:

I've posted this elsewhere but thought it would be interesting for the Shudde Bros thread. It’s an OR-style Stetson with an embroidered liner and Shudde Bros on the sweatband. It has some atypical date indicators but I’m leaning towards it being a 60s or later hat.
Wow, Steve, love the 6-ply band, wide brim with binding, and what looks like amazing quality felt in a great color! Can we see the inside? What’s the vintage?
Not a new hat but a repurposed old beater Stetson Roadrunner. This version will see time on the river for the rest of the summer. I’m still trying to find (or create) the perfect summer fly fishing hat and this one, I hope, is moving in the right direction.
Features include:
- custom fur felt...
Thanks Steve! Is it the stylized “O” that helps date it to possibly being pre-war? I found a reference to that ”O” being as early as 1934 but nothing definitive.
I haven’t been able to find anything about the box. It has no labels so not much to go on.
