I'm determined not to let this beautiful felt go to the scrap heap Tuk. First, I'll try to re-dye it for Brent. If that fails, then beater/hiking/working hat it is. This nutria body doesn't have the thinness of a vintage felt, but it certainly has the tight felting and soft hand of one.
It all boils down to the learning curve Terry. Practice on your scrap brim trimmings, use cheap ribbon, and be prepared to throw a lot of it away. You'll be a master in no time.

Go for it JJ. Used westerns in your size should be plentiful and inexpensive. Fire up the steam iron and flatten the brims (use pressing cloth). Fire up the teapot and steam and reshape the crowns and/or brims. Rip off the old ribbons and add your own unique touch. When you get tired of one...
I agree Jared. I'm planning to bind the brim with the saddle (lightest) ribbon. Too many customer hats in the queue right now to make one for myself, but I'll post a picture of the finished hat when I do get it made.
