Maybe one of you guys can save that information on blocks and sizing of a hat, or put it somewhere on the thread where it might belong as a reference. I wrote that 2x this week.

I was looking at the other posts on the hat , that got glued to the block. My guess is there was a fresh coat of schallac, or sealer on the wood. I only ever stuck one to the block, and swore I will never let it get me again. When you iron the crown, take some breaks in between and don't over...
No, not correct. Simply put, for anyone blocking a hat. You are going to find differences in what the base measures. They were not made to very close tolerances nor do I believe that there was a set standard in making them. This fouled (clean word) my head up for a little while. And I asked...
I'm curious to know how you made out. I can see pouncing each side to lighten a hat, but stiffness, that is the schallac mixture used in that felting process for that body style and to my knowledge, they have a different amount of stiffness. You can also make a schallac, if that brim is needing...
You really don't need to remove a thing. Soak the entire hat in Coleman fuel or Naptha, do it outside, use a metal container with lid if you have one. If not a plastic Tupper ware type with lid. Just do it away from your house, let it sit a few hours or overnight. If conditions are right...
I think I read back far enough. And if I didn't I apologize. I really enjoy the quality of the Winchester felt. I only use the 100% beaver dress weight, and staple rabbit, and a occasional western blend, and I've never used any other company. But there was a mention of equipment being in...
Definitely well said Anthony. I bet you can add to its thoughts. I know one question recently was how does a hatter make his price, and I think they compared it to modern hats. Like you said good felt, real deal stuff, is not cheap and I can have well into one hundred plus dollars invested...
Mark is a good guy, he had taken the time to have some very nice stuff made. I did get band blocks. I'd like to get more items. But I don't have the funds at this time. I'd just love all new blocks and flanges.

Baste stitching currently, on this 3/8 vintage ribbon, and I hope to get most of the brim bound or done, tonight. This is all hand work, no sewing machine except joining the grosgrain closed loop. I'll be busy until early evening. Looking at almost 8 hours, for me, on this precision, task...
Sounds maybe you are forming using your fingers, a little tight??
Work in the direction of the pounce also. Not against the grain, for lack of better words. Did your finish get messed up?

Bob, you have me an idea. I have a few old Mallory bodies, I couldn't afford all of them she had, I just took a few. I should weigh one, and compare it to a staple in that same size hood.

I don't know either, but you can email me if you'd like. I was just in between jobs here. You can find a 52 block, I'd bet on it.

Some of the felt in general, in general has been wonderful in respect to that. I just made Scootez, a hat that would likely feel, in the hand as close to a vintage felt weight . I'm just making a general observation and statement that may help .
