Dude, I wish I had discovered quality socks earlier in life. Getting over the hump of paying $20/pair was difficult, but I'm a Darn Tough convert. When you think about how comfortable good socks are, the cost per wear, and the fact you wear them daily, it makes sense to forgo the Costco pack...
Very nice. I love their snuff suede. I just love suede in general. I used to be afraid of suede (cue the classic Seinfeld episode) but I've since come to experience suede is incredibly durable, low maintenance, and looks incredible with some wear.
I can relate, but my experience is the inverse. Over the past 6 months, I turned away from leather jackets/outerwear back to watches and I'm pursuing multiple grail pieces. The heart wants, what the heart wants.
Fair enough. I completely understand your feelings about CXL when compared to richer leathers like shinki hh, maryam hr, or badelassi cowhide. Maybe I'd feel more like you if my collection was as diverse, but I think CXL has its own merits, especially its pull-up aspects.
That wasn't all. I think those boots look great as is, but why don't you add saphir renovateur cream and some wax polish to liven up the CXL? I'm in Brian's queue and can't decide what to get. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I've got another year to mull it over.
I’m in a similar boat. I’ve lusted after Bonafe, Meccariello, Vass, and Scafora for years, but with an odd foot and no local stockists, I haven’t ordered. I ordered from Skoak once and when I tried to return, the return shipping was more than I wanted to pay so I just ate it as a sunk cost.
I do. I think they’re very similar quality wise (leather, stitching, finishing, welt, etc). I prefer the profile of carmina’s sleeker European lasts, but my wide foot prefers Alden’s generous trubalance and Barrie lasts. I’ve eyed carmina’s shell boots and wouldn’t hesitate to buy, but at that...
As soon as I wrote the above, I knew I'd get called out bc I have a couple pair of dress shoes and Chukka boots with gy welted danite soles. I goofed! Also, arent those 2 pair of Carminas rubber half-soles?
In my mind, buyers haggle because they don't really want/need something but need to justify purchasing the item by getting it below market/list price. Sellers accept haggling because they want to sell the item and its been sitting/available for X days. If something is priced well, it sells...
I think this is very admirable of you and speaks volumes of your character, but I also think it would be unreasonable to expect the same from every member here, especially since people’s motivations for buying and selling (as well as their means/expectations/customs) vary widely.
Topy’s are the rubber half soles glued on top of leather ones. I’m not a fan but some people like them. I hear ya on the boots. I’ve told myself the same and I’ve been good since January!
Leather soles are typically dressier than rubber soles. I’ve never seen a handwelted or Goodyear welted dress shoe with just a rubber sole. Leather soles are a hallmark of quality footwear. In my opinion their benefit to the rubber soles is purely aesthetic. Metal toe taps are especially helpful...
People need to put on their big boy pants and accept that the free market decides the price! Buyers can offer whatever they want and sellers can accept, decline, or counter. This is such a simple and universal concept it baffles me when people are “offended” by “low-ball” offers.
I hate giving "fit" advice over the interwebs bc pictures are deceiving and only tell a partial story, but I think this is the right play. To my eyes, the jacket looks too big on you and should benefit from a little nip/tuck here/there. Hope the results are better!
I love RM Williams. Both the comfort craftsman (rubber sole) and classic craftsman (leather sole) are super comfortable. Their rubber soles seem indestructible. I've had my pair for 6+ years with regular wear (weekly during the first few years, once a month since) and there's no indication they...
