I tried using a Search for this questions but the hits were so voluminous that I simply didn't have enough time to wade through all of them to see if any gave a suitable answer. If there is a thread for this, please post a link for me. Thanks in advance!
I have a straw hat that I want to...
I have one toyo straw hat. I don't think the paper would stand up to any kind of moisture very well. I've never tried to clean it. So far, I've just been very careful to try not to get if dirty.
This question/complication is one reason that I try to avoid toyo straw hats.

You seem to have no experience with an actual, genuine pith helmet. There is a harness inside that suspends the helmet above and off of the scalp (similar to a hard hat). They don't get "sweated out" because you don't actually touch anything but the sweat band and the harness. You can remove the...
Hmm. Thought my post was long enough as it is.
Well, yes, wearing damp wool in the cold is not like standing in front of a 40,000 BTU heater but I sort of thought that assumption was understood. In any case, it seems you and I are in agreement.

My experience is pretty limited. I've lived in Alaska, California, and Texas as well as serving on the Army (and wearing what they required). In my experience, wool is way too hot for me to consider it as a hot weather fabric. Wool is warm even when it's wet. That's why it's enjoyed long term...
I know their pith helmets are handmade in Zimbabwe. I spoke with a clerk on the phone about that. The website says they are importers and that their inventory is designed and made in Zimbabwe so I assume everything else is made there too. I know they have a brick and mortar store about 40...
FYI, if anyone cares, TAG Safari is in Houston, Texas.
Point being that shipping to places in North America should be faster and less expensive than you'd expect coming from Africa.

And yet the debate on this topic has been raging since the 1980's and continues on to this day. Oh well, I guess there isn't really a definitive answer to this since the reality is that any GWS can potentially be deadly (meaning that it's best not to get shot by anything). Today the Army issues...
I live in a hot climate. My hat choices are almost exclusively straw or linen. If you made a hot weather version in a color I like, I'd consider it.

#1 Trilby
#2 Duckbill ivy/flat
#3 Safari (wide brim)
#4 Boonie
#5 Cowboy
#6 Ball cap
The trilby is my fedora. I have to have a stingy brim. I don't wear fedoras that have full size brim (at least not at this time). It just doesn't seem to look right on my head.

Wore a wide brim straw hat (a $10 Dorfman Pacific 388 to be exact) to a Farmers' Market on Saturday and got a compliment from a guy there. I wasn't expecting a compliment on a $10 hat that most people see as a gardening hat or beach hat. It's was sunny and hot and the guy said, "that's a nice...
Page and pages of opinions on this topic. I'm just wondering which of you (soldiers, Marines, police...or anyone else, I guess) have ACTUALLY SHOT SOMEONE with either of these calibers?
I'm interested in hearing from people who've used the 9mm and the .45ACP in an actual gunfight. Magazine...
