I'm 5'6", 140lbs. My chest is 37", and I wear a 36 or a 38, depending on the cut of the jacket. Shaul recommended a custom 36 Short, which is what mine is. A year later I contacted him about the mobility issues. At first I thought that the horsehide just needed to break in, but over time decided...
In retrospect, a G-1 would have worked better. It is a far superior jacket. But, as an Air Force pilot, I had nonsensical notions about wearing USN jackets.
My issue A-2 was very easy to move in, but it was several sizes too big, and looked accordingly awful. This A-2 fit nicely, but bound...
Sorry to bump my own thread, but - ignoring the fact that it's not historically accurate - what do you think of the G-1-style gusset modification?
I'm still sixes on it. On the one hand, it does make movement easier. On the other, they seem to naturally bulge "out", rather than fold "in"...
After reading this thread, I think I'll likely go with US Authentic. The "vintage goat" looks pretty neat, and I've been so pleased with my A-2 from them that I think Shaul ought to have a shot with the Indy.
Perhaps in a few months I'll place the order...
Well, you guys aren't helping. I started with two choices, and now you've added a third. ;)
I might take a look at the US Authentic. Their "vintage goat" hide looks, at least in pictures, like it has more character than the G&B goat used for their Expedition.
When I bought my custom A2, I sized it so the leather portion ended at my natural waist, right around the bellybutton/top of pelvis. That put the knits just over my belt with my Levis.
Maybe that's not correct, but it seems to look ok, at least according to you guys.
I'm 5'6", and the...
It can ride up just a tiny bit. And yes, I think the sleeves could have been a touch shorter, but I was a bit more cautious on that length, since leather sleeves can shorten some on their own as they crease.
So I sized the body length to end the leather portion right at my "natural" waist...
Here's my A-2 from US Authentic. I ordered a custom 36 Short, and then had G-1 style underarm gussets added because the jacket was a bit constricting when reaching forward. I know it's not a pure reproduction, and now with the gussets it's not anywhere close, but what do you think about the...
I had been steering clear of Wested because a survey of this board seemed to indicate that their jackets were more along the lines of props, and less "utility wear". And, I'll admit, the prices kind of make me wonder where the shortcuts are. After all; made in England is typically MORE...
I'm not looking for "Indy's Jacket", but AN "Indy-type Jacket", so screen/movie accuracy isn't the end goal. Basically, as was mentioned above, the basic design has useful pockets and classic design features, and the "action-back" looks like it will also give good mobility. All this is assuming...
Hello everyone! Long time lurker...you guys are responsible for the fact that I own a US Authentic A-2. Very nice, by the way, but to do it over again I'd probably order one size up. It looked fantastic with my arms down, but reaching forward, (shoe tying, driving, etc.), was terribly...
