His goatskin is probably the best I've come across..... and that includes Buzz Rickson, ELC, Aero (which is a 80's one so could be better brand new) and Thedi.... though Sheely I've been told manages to find fantastic hides
Ahh that Windward.....does the fur pop off that collar?
I've got one similar to it with the upper chest/shoulder panel that's kinda more decorative.....the best horsehide jacket I've ever owned and, like yours , one of the most complimented jackets I've owned
Well like you've mentioned, us "military crowd" send in our collections of original Dubrow and Cable's and Roughwears......so he can pull them apart and study them.....so he and his workers can get the patterns and hardware right
No-one is sending in civil jackets to him so he's having to work...
It's goatskin mate......if it's Pakistani goatskin you should be able to put it in a cement mixer and all it would do is soften it up lol
I mean goatskin is literally full of lanolin (hence why the USN made G1 and M-442 out of it) and can take beatings that horse and cow just shrink up and dye...
Ahhh I meant current day goatskin in "USA made" jackets tend to be flat and characterless..... Pakistan/India I think is the world's largest (and probably highest quality) producer of goatskin, which I actually prefer to wear compared to cow or horse since it's a lot lighter, breaths better and...
I don't know what all the hate against Pakistan leather is about.....
The best quality goatskin has come out of that part of the world for decades.... I've seen what passes for goatskin in the USA and frankly it's just flat characterless junk
My Victorian police jacket made by Stagg leathers Melbourne.
And yes it's a lighter shade of navy blue (our state police tend to have roughly the same shade of blue except for NSW, which is black and WA which hadn't issued leather jackets since the climate is too hot for it)
As a motorcycle rider I know just how functional the side lace is........
When you have a "Brando" style jacket (which is heavily quilted) you need to be able to adjust the fit depending on how hot and humid the day is,if you're wearing a hoodie or just a tee,if you're wearing CE armour or going...
Now those are a ton better than the viberg boots ( I had a pair of their service boots that had similar "sloppy" grain and flicked them on quite quickly after I found out viberg don't like doing returns from Australia)
I also love the toe cap look, which I've finally satisfied with a pair of army...
The funniest thing about this picture is I actually have the same make and model jacket that the prop department used to create the Mad Max jacket (Stagg Leather (Melbourne) "Brando single flap" )
A wierd jacket that is a little like a love child between a cafe racer and a perfecto.....but us...
Us Antipodeans wear leather jackets with grim determination my friend
Honestly I usually wear "lightweight" leather (like our state's police jackets) or a A2,since they aren't insulated or have any sort of padding to retain heat and humidity.
Anything that's got a thick or wooly liner is too...
Ahh most of my jackets are Australian brands......with designs unique to us..... probably of little interest to Americans.
The exception would be my Christie's A2......a reproduction of the Australian wartime contract for the USAAF (V505).... only downside is the synthetic knits rather than wool
