@MrProper what kind of hide is your cossack? And is it possible to get buffalo in black?
And for my education, what are the main differences between buffalo and horsehide? I'm kinda 70/30 towards horsehide, but I have never had a buffalo hide...anything
I'm thinking of ordering the 5* cossack design but replace the shawl collar with split shirt like collar. I don't like the shawl style. Of course after I receive the trucker I've already ordered, which is my first encounter with 5* and will be the guiding experiment with their craftsmanship and...
I think it's still available. He gave me the choice between 2mm and 1.3mm. I went with the 1.3. I didn't know that the 2mm was as described by @Canuck Panda
The only 2mm+ HH my son has is a Lost Worlds test jacket and it is very stiff, like a saddle, but drapes really well.
But I have to admit I love the Horween CXL that JL offer. I've got one 1.6mm and it was wearable right off. If the leather on the trucker I've ordered from 5* is even a good...
That jacket looks great!
I've ordered the black 1.3mm horsehide in a trucker. They said that the 2mm is waterproof. How would the 1.3mm not be waterproof, I don't know.
Well, since the 5* cost is so favorable, I wouldn't be bad to figure out an algorithm to determine how to adjust the order according to the individual measurements and their interpretation of them.
And, without trying to divert the focus of the thread, I'd like to ask anyone with experience...
I like some room with my clothes. Tight feels kinda...claustrophobic to me. If this jacket comes out even approximately right, the way I want it, I'll be ordering more from them. I have my eye on the Cossack and the '30s half belt like the one @Griemersma or @ton312 got
Ok. Thanks. I've just never had to go over ratios like that. I simply send measurements, and the maker does whatever it is they do and I get the garment.
But I appreciate the chart. Thank you.
To all 5* aficionados, please advice.
I've placed an order with them for a trucker through their website and I sent detailed instructions.
I received a response, which among pricing and what not, included this little nugget
"you selected size 2XL according to our size chart with our listing...
Ok I agree for a thick hide such as the one you've ordered. I think I'm going with 2.5oz, if available, horsehide, otherwise for a thicker hide I will stick with snaps
If they insist to go the website route I'll do exactly what you did. Thanks
And yes, I really like JL jackets. I'm having a carcoat made for my son by them, and I'll have a '50s style HH half belt made for me, like one a saw on this forum. Great looking jacket
So, I guess in order to sort of establish a process, first email them the measurements, type of leather, and specifications, wait for a response/price and then buy the closest priced approximation of the custom jacket from the website to establish an order number. I've been already informed that...
