Definitions from google:
Custom garments are made with you in mind. A tailor makes a series of measurements and will create a pattern for you. Everything from the slope of your shoulders and hips to the length of your legs will be considered in creating this custom suit. These garments are more...
Agreed. Well said.
I like the rustic look. That's why I am pursuing the issue.
I will ask and hopefully it won't be an unreasonable wait nor overly expensive.
Lewis are from England, right?
Well from what I've experienced, Johnson Leathers will make a jacket from tweaks of existing patterns, to completely bespoke. They need detailed requirements.
Vanson were very hesitant to flat out saying no to make something that was not already on their website...
Well, I think I'm going hunting for deer. Never hunted before, but how hard can it be.
Seriously, I understand why horse hide is expensive, and the indie/repro makers charge up for that, and even bison but deer I would think should not be more expensive than cowhide, even if they're harvested...
Yeah, I guess, but with so many deer being donated for meat, you would think that the price wouldn't be that much higher. It's a negotiating point I guess with whatever maker offers the option.
Speaking of hides, why is it that deer hide is more expensive? There are so many deer. In Virginia they had to seriously cull the herds. Is it difficult to process or work with? Honestly I don't know. I just go by the fact that the supply is plentiful.
Go figure.
To be honest I prefer Horween HH ( I guess HHH?) It's uniform, and depending on weight/thickness, not particularly resistant to breaking it in. Just beautiful leather that gets all more glorious with age.
I saw that his jackets are offered through ebay. I guess If one wanted to have a jacket made to measure and design, should let him know through ebay messaging.
If you have HH Vansons, you are among the few. They don't use hides like that anymore. I don't understand why they don't offer the option. Schott imports their HH from Italy
The thing with the bigger brands is that their leather selection is not as wide as what's available by the repro ones. About a year ago I asked Vanson if they would use HH for a jacket and the response was that it would cost an additional $400 and about 3-4 months extra in wait time. So at this...
There haven't been many comments on any of these makers on FL. Well...besides Good Wear. I forgot to mention pasaic in my initial question. From what I've just checked, their product spectrum is quite narrow.
Besides (that I know of) Schott, Vanson, Johnson Leathers, Langlitz and Lost Worlds are there any other leather jacket makers in the US who make their products in the US using, primarily, local material? I know Taylor leather has their jackets made in Pakistan.
So, if I understand correctly, your body measurement to jacket measurement at the waist is about 0.95. At their website they recommend 0.88 and that's what they go by unless they're instructed otherwise. So, the secret to get a jacket as close as possible to the desired size is excruciatingly...
