I scored a Gibson & Barnes “Civil” G-1 off eBay for a great price. It has welted side-entry hand warmer pockets (very convenient!) but otherwise it’s almost exactly like their Mil-Spec model G-1.
It’s one size larger than what I usually would wear but it does have that WWII slightly oversized...
I would recommend an extra 1.5 or 2 inches in the sleeve, depending on how you prefer your jacket sleeve length (I’m a guy with gorilla arms so I always prefer a sleeve that’s a tad too long rather than a smidgen too short).
The body looks pretty good (perhaps an added inch or so in front?)...
Thanks for thinking of me and my fellow mariners @Doctor Damage; it was -15 below zero this morning when I started work. Friggin’ COLD, and ice covered pretty much everything. Brrrrrrrr!
Why didn’t I see that on the ‘Bay!?!? I’d have also snatched it up! You don’t see these big sizes very often.
Looks like a great “chore” coat kinda garment, something to just throw on over a sweater or fleece and battle the elements rather than a form-fitting cafe racer kind of jacket.
Working on breaking in the thick russet horsehide on my G-8. The creases and wrinkles are starting to pop. I wore this jacket all weekend, from a Broadway show in the City to downtown Chinatown; from Home Depot to the supermarket; from walking the dogs to the local movie theater. The G-8 front...
Two days ago it was below zero with ice everywhere. Today it’s 55 degrees with gusty winds and torrential rain.
My “new” Gibson & Barnes F-82 has been my go-to jacket lately and it’s handled the weather quite well. The black goatskin looks sharp and seems indestructible.
I was going to revisit this thread but @Doctor Damage beat me to it!
Out in the harbor the wind chills were -15 to -20 below zero; everything was shrouded in ice. Mighty COLD!
I was able to fit 3 cashmere wool sweaters under my leather jacket so I survived the deep freeze (and there’s at least...
After seeing that cool new Thedi buffalo hide jacket of @HoosierDaddy, I thought I’d post this; it’s a Sporty’s buffalo hide jacket that I found on the ‘Bay just recently (Sporty’s Pilot Shop were selling these jackets about 10 yeas ago but no longer offer them).
Makes me wonder what exact...
“How many G-1’s is too many?”
My wife would probably say “3” but my collection is currently around 20 (3 original M-422a’s, 6 or 7 original G-1’s from the 1950’s to the 1990’s, the rest are repro’s) but I’ve stopped counting.
They are my all-time favorite leather jacket and I just keep finding...
Windy, cold, blustery day today and I was wearing my custom Willis & Geiger M-422a that was made for me by Mr. Steve Sellers. Hide is a midweight grainy French russet goatskin that feels quite luxurious and is buttery soft.
Happy New Year everyone.
I’ve added a repro Navy blood chit as an inside pocket on my 100-mission Cockpit G-1 and I covered the quasi-vintage M-422/G-1 Cockpit label with a replica Willis & Geiger M-422A label. This jacket is my new go-to G-1 for looks, comfort and styling. Really love the...
Happy New Year @Big J!
Yeah, a more fitted female uniform would’ve looked better but I suppose they just gave her whatever was on hand to keep her warm.
Seeing Marilyn in that blue B-15 made the jacket instantly iconic for me.
That’s an interesting story that your wife related @Deacon211. It reminds me of a Navy sea story: it was 1985, I was stationed aboard a Navy tugboat. Women were not allowed as crew aboard ships at that time, but they were allowed aboard harbor tugboats. My tug had a crew of ten, 6 men and 4...
