This came in a couple days back. Untagged, but fairly sure it's a Cal / Leatherman padded CHP. I was going to flip it, but it fits so well that I think I'll keep it. It weighs 6.5 pounds, so a decent weight. Some wonky stitching going on too. The one thing that I have noticed, especially...
It's a nice jacket and the new price isn't terrible, but I feel like mentioning this is the exact same jacket I linked a couple days ago and the current seller is just flipping it.
It is big for those shoulder measurements, but it could possibly make more sense if it's some sort of V-shaped jacket that has a very aggressive taper.
How challenging is it to dye a black jacket to a different color, like navy blue, british racing green, or red? Are there any guides to doing something like that here?
I was admiring HM's racing green brooks jacket for the tenth time today, and I was just curious how difficult it is to...
You are correct that is a Golden Bear. Golden Bear, perhaps more than any maker I can think of (maybe Johnson Leather) was contracted by a large number of leather shops and adult stores to supply jackets that were then labeled with shop tags. Male Hide was one such store. Here's another example...
Seeing all this progress on leather is awesome. I've held off on going through with an order because I've not been super impressed with the leather offerings, but after these developments, I think I'm going to take the plunge.
Thanks for looking out - not quite my style though.
I offered $70 and the seller accepted...Excited to try out a leather trucker jacket, even though this could be on the smaller side. I think it'll probably fit okay unbuttoned. I have a denim jacket with similar measurements that fits just...
Making fun of other people interested in niche outerwear is a definitely hypocritical of me, but I don't think I'll ever understand the thought process of spending thousands of dollars on an old cotton jacket.
Looking closer at the back pattern, you're right that it is different. I'm not sure who the maker would be then. Honestly, it still looks like artificial distressing to me though. Can't really point to anything in particular, it just looks excessive in relation to the rest of the wear on the jacket.
The Aero x LVC Bird of Prey / Rough n' Ready were created based off a 1950s original Levi's motorcycle jacket, so if it is from the 50s, it is likely the jacket these reproductions were based off of. However, I would agree that the wear looks very artificial. The Aero LVC jackets had various...
It’s a bit hard to make out, but the full tag says something like:
“Made expressly for:
Michael LaMotta
By Passaic Leather Coat Co.”
Passaic is the maker. They outfitted a number of police departments and probably were custom ordered, resulting in the name being on the jacket.
It is odd...

Well, this description is kind of dark:
Quote from the officer’s granddaughter:
“My grandfather, Bobby LaMotta, was a police officer. He served with the Newark Police Department for 16 years and was assigned to the Traffic Division. He was a motorcycle...
I scooped it up. I don't like that they got rid of the epaulets, and there are no studs on the back, but for $50 shipped it could be a lot worse. Maybe if I dye it back to black I can get some sore of weird fake teacore effect over time.
That's exactly what happens. Sellers like Mintvintage purchase used clothing in bales that are totally packed, just crammed in there with no regard for the item until it is eventually taken out of the bale. Imagine this, but just filled with leather jackets:
I'm not sure what their source is...
