    What are you wearing today??

Yeah - picked up right before lockdown, and it sat in the office all that time! It's a great blue-grey, not unlike an RAF or Luftwaffe blue-grey. The coat itself is the standard Winter issue for ceremonial duties for the Guards regiments (mine came with Scots Guards buttons, but they're all the...

    Boater faction!

Ideally, it's best to try one on. A lot of folks talk of wearing a boater a size down from everything else, as they sit higher on the head. I've always bought my regular size and never had a problem. They won't sit quite as easy as a Panama or other straw fedora type, but I don't find mine at...

    What are you wearing today??

Been sporting this coat quite a bit the last week. Picked it up for a small outlay on eBay just before the pandemic, and it sat in the office for about three years. Recently found the time to switch out the original military buttons for a set of civilian ones, and have a damaged sleeve lining...

What Cap Are You Wearing Today?

Won't be worn in anger until the warmer weather next Spring now, but this Bronson recently arrived via eBay. It'll need the wrinkles fallen out of it, but overall very pleased with it for a relatively small outlay.

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

very nice! Is that black, or very dark seal?

    aero highway fit check

Length of the body looks good to me. I might want an inch more in the sleeves, but they don't look at all wrong - if it feels good, it is.

    Cowboy Boots

I have a vague memory of at least one Hollywood movie in which one of the male leads straps up his old boots this way as they wear out. Seems an odd choice for a new pair, but hey... fashion (turn to the left). Not my aesthetic choice, but I' sure I look equally weird to them, so.

You know you are getting old when:

I'm a big fan of having a spork in the suitcase, just in case... Mine have been really useful on more than a few work trips where they saved me from having to try to eat noodles in a hotel room, with my fingers... Cassette walkman thingies are quite hip over here at the minute - invariably...

Did men in the Golden Era wear black watch straps with black dress shoes?

I suspect wealthy or at least better off men avoided mixing their browns and their blacks; those further down the economic scale who might only be able to afford one watch and one strap at a time quite likely mixed out of necessity. (And might have always mixed if they could only afford one...

Thoughts on these Jimmy Choo boots?

I suppose it depends on the boot. A Lewis Westway or similar MC boot, fine. The boots in the OP to me look like they'd be much nicer with lacing. To my eye, if zipped, a boot needs to be a bit sleeker. That said, it's a rare fashion item post 1959 that really interests me much at all, so as...

    Workwear Vests

Thanks, definitely worth considering! I do like a good vest year round. :)

Allen Edmonds (really... are they good shoes?)

I see in this close-up photo the crooked line of the stitching. I imagine noone else will ever spot it unless you similarly point it out to them. I'm all for getting bargain on a 'second' where there's this sort of 'flaw' that is cosmetic only. Just last week I needed a new pair of shoes for...

    Fedora brim width???

Bogies hat looks about 2.5" to me. My preferred brim width is about 2.75" to 3" on something with a tall crown, though on something like a porkpie I'll go as low as 2". Never less than 2", though.

    &Sons

These guys are on my radar for their workwear waistcoats (I'm always on the lookout for an alternative to a jacket when it's too hot for one but I need the pocketses...). Anyone tried those? Much of this type of thing looks like they're in the same general ballpark as Pike Bros.

    Crush On Retro

It's hit and miss, I find. https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty As I understand it, you're supposed to pay VAT on anything that's not a gift worth less than £39, but you don't have to pay anything in terms of import tax as long as it stays under £134. (I have no idea how they...

Sears Vertical Zip Map Pocket motorycle jacket

Really like this design. Puts me in mind of a crossbreed between a Schott 184SM and a Perfecto type. Definitely a jacket I could fancy. The versions with the rear zip pocket at the back are interesting - I wonder if that design could be adapted to slip in a back protector?

    Goat or cowhide for winter?

This is absolutely the key here. Every time these discussions come up, there's a lot of commentary that deals in absolutes and assumed norms - but we're all different. Plenty of folks will tell you an Irvin or a B3 is "too warm" for London - I've worn both over the years rather a lot from...

You know you are getting old when:

I learned *all* my best swears from kids under the age of ten. Still do. A few weeks ago I went to see The Undertones live, and caught myself thinking - "Why are there suddenly all these old people at gigs I'm going to?" As odd to me as being in hospital for a few days the week before that and...

    Schott NYC Service Boots

I agree. The 10/11" engineer boots that Schott launched at the same time also bear all the hallmarks of Chippewa. Not sure if it's been officially confirmed, but I'm sure I read somewhere something that supposedly unofficially confirmed that's who made them for Schott.

    New Bootlegger in Badalassi

Great choice. Of all the jackets I've ever owned, my Bootlegger (in CXL FQHH Cordovan) is by far the most versatile dressed up, down ,worn with earthtones or blacks and greys, cap or fedora, denim or collar and tie.... Such a great design.
