I haven't any desire to see it. Seth Rogen as the masked crimefighter the Green Hornet? No. Just, no.
One video on the 'Net that I've seen uses the Al Hirt theme and various shots of the Hornet's car, Black Beauty, in superb ways. If only the film had played it straight!
Melissa,
In some senses the new Solo and new Illya are in the spirit of the originals. Both Solos are dark-haired, well-dressed, rather Cary Grant-ish; both Illyas are blond and dress more casually. Looking at the poster or any group of stills from the film with the two of them in it, a fan...
I liked the pre-WWII cars because I had built and customized plastic models of them, from companies like AMT and Revell and Monogram. The early to mid-'60s cars I loved because they were new and of the moment, because heroes and villains on TV drove them, and because I'd built models of them too.
The top pic with the snow: Love the Stratoliner Dad appears to be wearing.
The second pic has a very "New Orleans in the 1950s" vibe to it -- a French Quarter or Treme street, weathered houses with shutters, etc. Might also be a Caribbean island with a significant French-speaking population...
The '58 was, I think, considered a "softer" car, softer-riding perhaps, than the '57. Though that could have been well after the fact, as car fans got all excited about the mechanical fuel injection available on the '57. My father had one of the Impalas that year: red below, white top, and...
There are people who will do some repair work on vintage razors, and even replate them in nickel or several other metals. I've recently had my 1962 Gillette "Slim" Adjustable replated, and it looks as if I just stepped out of my General Products time machine and bought it at the local drugstore...
There are DE shavers on the 'Net who prefer the Forties-style Super Speeds to the later ones. Of course, there are those who say the pre-war Gillettes were better than ___________, and those who say 3-piece razors are better than adjustables, and . . .
I bought a 1953 Super Speed earlier...
If that checkered curved thing is the steering wheel, and if the pic is not reversed, then it would not be Australia or England or NZ, or any country where they drive on the left. The wheel would be on the other side of the car.
I used those multi-blade razors off and on for many years -- mostly after a pass with the electric razor, to plane myself off. The DE razors give a much closer shave than the multi-blades, without the risk of ingrown hairs.
Queen of the Desert, Werner Herzog's chronicle of the adult life of Gertrude Bell, a self-described traveler in the Arab lands just before and during World War One. Nicole Kidman is charming and steely by turns, playing a woman who finds purpose in her life after the death of her first lover...
So many have been garbage. The Addams Family films, at least the first one, were good adaptations with the right spirit and funny to boot. But so many others -- 21 Jump Street, Starsky and Hutch, Dark Shadows, and I Spy, I'm looking at you -- turned the original concepts into comedies...
You're not going to believe this of me, but I don't have a copy of the DVD yet.
Yes. It's true. I've been debating whether to replace my 1996 TV and 2005 DVD player with more modern units, including a Blu-Ray player, and so I've held off on buying the Blu-Ray of the movie. I know the boat...
I had that problem with the first of the Game of Thrones novels. The publishers for whatever reason had put the list of characters, which is long, at the back of the book instead of the front. I couldn't find it, and had trouble keeping the characters' relationships straight. Then I watched...
I remember wearing my Fed IV over to Miss Linda's one day and putting the hat crown down on a low bookcase. Then I turned around to find that her small white cat Annabelle had curled up, not next to the lid, but inside it. I didn't think it was possible for a full-grown cat to fit inside my...
