Your hat, your choice. But - maybe try some other options first. Maybe use less padding at the temple area. And/or maybe you can work the sweatband so the ripples move towards the back of the hat.
That's a great hat and you wear it well. No one will take you for being Amish - with those headphones... Maybe Mennonite ;)
I am always wanting to change out the stock hatband with something different so my $0.02 advice is to think it through a bit to make sure you get the look you are going...
Did you actually measure the brim yourself? I looked at the website and it says 3.5" brim but, proportionally, it looks more like a 4.5 - 5" brim... Maybe that's just me.
I can't tell by the single photo if it fits you or not. The hat looks good and if you are new to hats you may be...
Too bad it's not your size. Otherwise you could do a double a triple you could do a "ripples in the pond" telescope crease. That might bring the height down a bit. o_O
Is that a trophy hat or a wearin' hat? (As Laverne said, "Is that hanky for showin' or for blowin'?")
You can't revive a trend if you don't wear it regularly.
This is a great thread in need of a bump. It is also in need of new life (and photos). Most of the photos in this thread are gone (post #96 was the first Pic). The last couple of pages have some great pictures.
I think it's time to kick start the tall crown fad again. A 100-year celebration, if...
It’s too early to post about waiting for a Gannon (since I’m still in the que and have a good 1-2 months before it even gets started) but that is where my heart is. Anyway, I am waiting on a Sunbody 4" brim, 5-3/4" open crown, Guatemalan standard palm hat…
My current palm straw is starting to...
Having recently watched a couple of 1930's western movies, I can say they had some tall crowns during that timeframe. The Carlsbad's 7" crown was probably somewhat modest for that day, huh?
Amusing comments aside, that is a nice hat.
Editing this to ask @carouselvic (and anyone else) with a vintage Stetson (or other brand) Big Four hat. I have two questions for you:
1) The brim is 4 inches - Is that 4 inches plus the curl, or is it a total of 4 inches including the curl?
2) How big is the curl?
Thanks for any help you can...
I appreciate the insight on saddle soap. I went light on it to good effect (these sweats weren't too dirty) but I think I'll look for a less intense cleaner.
I have had good luck with the lanolin not being tacky for too long. Maybe melting it helps with absorption and it's generally good for skin.
I have searched and read through the various sweatband care/cleaning threads and this seems most relevant for my concerns. I am not a collector so I have no need for caring for an old sweatband (at least not yet). On my new hats, I have worn them for about a week and then treat the front and...
