I had an orange label goatskin obne back in the late 90's / early naughties .... it was a great jacket and the guy I sold it to ( my buddy John D ) has still got it and wears it regularly.
I got a 42" and it fitted fine for me ( which would be a little loose for most on here) but to me it...
I looked at one of these when I bought my BK M422a and my AN6552 ( about a year ago ) .... just felt the Mouton collar was nore practical .... the goatskin will last forever but in my head that sytle of jacket should have a Mouton collar :(
Great jackets though ... as I recall quite small...
Grizzly order placed with AL ....
spec as follows :
Black CXL Steer
Black Mouton Overlays
Slightly neater collar - more Roadster-ish
Nickel Hardware
Strome weight Gordon Tartan Lining
4 weeks to wait or thereabouts :)
or WASH IT. I've done 2 goatskin jackets now and it gets rid of the smoke smell completely ( I bought a BK M422a and it reeked when it arrived .... nothing diminished the stench of ashtray on it ...... washing machine cold wash with woolite and an extended air dry on a pipe insulation padded...
I'd say for a Roadster / Highwayman type jacket ... it's about 1" -2" short in the body but chest, sleeve and shoulders look OK ???
In all honesty .. if you think it doesn't fit ... it probably doesn't ( because quite frankly the best judge of wether it fits is YOU )
In my experience...
I have to say having sampled Eastman, Lost Worlds, Aero, Alexanders and BK goatskin ... they are all very good and you wont be dissapointed with any of them. The Eastman ( G-1) and BK stuff (M422a) is very grainy / pebbly and a little stiff if I'm honest but softens exceptionally with wear. The...
Sleeves shoulders and Chest look great .. but from the pics it looks like you are fairly slim and as such have cinched in the side adjusters. Once it softens up it will look better but equally you might want to speak to Brendan / Steve / Will at Alexanders and see if they could adjust it in at...
I think that relates to the Horshide "Hair On" jacket that Aero did .. rather like the famed "King o Fur" jackets from the 1930's. I had one of these and it did indeed end up rather sparce in places :(
The sheepskin ones and Muton ones would be quite robust .. if Irvin's and shearling...
I'm becoming very tempted by a black Grizzly with nickle hardware for on the bike .... black CXL steer with rivited pockets like P38 M/C Jackets a Century of Leather Design ( which the AL version is based on) :)
P43 1930's Laskinlamb appears to what the RMZ one is based on ( given the...
Had a few Oilpull steer and Oilpull horse Aeros and never had a smelly one :(
Maybe it's gone rancid or been stored damp or something ..... In any case either return it or stick it in the washing machine :)
I assume you're talking about "The Edinburgh Woollen Mill" who's registered Head Office is in Langholm and who is one of the largest retailers of woollen products ( if not the largest) in the UK and one of the few who still produce in the UK in the borders ( but who source from over 40 countries...
or you can buy a submariner sweatwe / RAF sweater from Aero for @ £85 .. or one from Eastman for @£95 ... or a Navy Surplus one from Ebay for @£30 .. or have one custom knitted for £100 to the original pattern ( if you know a prolific knitter) .. or get your Auntie Lizzie to knit one for you...
I thought the std. off white RAF sweater was steep at £87.50 ...... thwe devil is in the detail but MAN that's an expensive jumper :) You can pick up some REALLY nice cashmere for that sort of wedge .... and my surplus one cost me £8 in the 80's from a stock sale in Shortstown ( should have...
Great jackets, great leather ... not sure I could live with the (front) length but it looks good on you ... well done. I assume there's no armour in it ????
If you want a soft light but incredibly resilient leather then Goat is yer man ..... there is a reason why there are so many great condition USN G-1's around and that is that Goat is as tough as ... old goat :)
I have two USN goat jackets ( BK M422a and an Aero AN6552 ) the Aero is 6 years...
The AL Kudu looks more matt .... more like oilpull :
