The ( now discontinued) Californian was my go to jacket for about 12 years and over 1 million air miles :)
The VDR is also a longtime favourite and is equally at home with jeans and boots or trousers, shoes and a shirt and tie.
Otter don't discount Altberg ... I have many LE or Military colleagues and friends who swear by Altberg .... they have a custom fit service and I've had my microlight Bandog winter bike boots for 10 years with no ill effects. Light weight and and great support.

I bought one about a year and a half ago ( so I'm assuming this was one of the improved run ones) for what was at the time £225 ( I suspect SE Asian made .. but none the less well put together) ... details that my one from 4 years ago didn't have ....
- Steerhide leather facings in a more...
I generally travel in a leather jacket ( and I travel a fair bit) .... and weight adjusts appropriately ( not mine .... the jacket :) ) ... Sheepskin for the cold, Heavy Lined for the Spring / Autumn and cotton lined for the Summer.
A lighter Goatskin, AN6552 or an A2 ( my two have two inside...
have 2 with a cord hem ( LHB and Barnstormer) and shearling liner and have had 2 with a leather trim ( HBD and Highwayman) with shearling liner.
The leather strip works well with a shorter style ( HB/HBD/Highwayman) as the leather strip is only about 2-3" and as such doesn't add too much...
If I remember correctly the "Big A" Aero zippers were actually made by the Aero Knitting Needle Company .... I had them on my "lost" Brown Highwayman. It was a muckle beast ( the zipper and the jacket). Not sure who made the 2 way one above .... but I like it.
The YKK zippers branded "Aero"...
think it's actually ILLEGAL to wear uniform, part of uniform, insignia and rank
In the USA http://www.lawinfo.com/illegal-wearing-of-uniforms.html unless you are :
- A U.S. military retiree who may wear the uniform of the service from which they retired and the insignia of the rank...
The lining is very similar to weathered Gordon Tartan ( my favourite lining) .... it is after all my family tartan ..... I'm not sure if it has the yellow stripe ... but it's pretty close .... I have 7 jackets in this lining :D
Some samples
I'm also loving the 1950's "Green...
If it fits with his view re. free speech ... and fits with how he feels .... then good on him ( I don't think he's likening anything to a terrorist massacre .. more a challenge re. free speech) .... and I don't find it tasteless at all, I think it's a little bit witty TBH
I have to say...
I have a chinese blood chit from the pacific theatre whick I bought about 10 years ago on cotton ..... which would marry quite well with the cotton lining .... not that bothered about the Burmah leather one .... but I think I may sew in the cotton chinese one into the lining to finish this off...
That sounds thoroughly crap Seb ... did you go back to them ??? I'm sure they would have been surprised and would have helped resolve .. goat just shouldn't age like that ( that's why the USN chose it after all )
It's normally about 6-12 per year ... some years higher, some lower. This was a particularly productive quarter - 1 direct from the manufacturer, 1 from the sale pages, 3 by auction or Ebay :D
Some get sold on ... some hang around ...... but they never stay forever .. as JL said " There's...
Ha .. I don't even "NEED" ONE ....... "WANT" however is a very different word :D
"There's no such thing as a keeper ! " ...... a quote from your good self I believe :D
