Having had over a dozen A-2's from all the major manufacturers by far the best interior modification is the addition of inside patch pockets. The Eastman 352nd Squadron version has these sewn through the leather and while this is authentic to the original that was used I didn't like the fact you...
Not overly warm, not overly cold ... But very cool! ... The tartan lining is mid weight rather than strome weight. It's a really nice jacket ... Now being replaced with a BK Westfall :)
It's really soft and pliable now ... and is for sale on eBay .... Do a search on eBay on "Simmons Bilt"...
I'd second the assertion that baby wipes do a GREAT job in removing overdressed gunk from leather jackets. They're also GREAT at cleaning dirt and muck from leather jackets.
As far as dressings go .... I must have used 100's of dressings, polishes, balms and conditioners in over 30 years of...
Haven't had any issue with either TBH ..... BK M422a took about 4 weeks (2 years ago) - great jacket, Eastman Roughwear A-2 took about 4 days ( stock item 3 years ago) - again great jacket. Current BK Westfall on order is waiting on leather and they're shut for holidays in Aug .... I expect it...
I've only ever had 4 horsehide finishes on ANJ-4's ... regular CXL, Aniline, semi- Aniline and Oilpull. Of those the first 3 worked well, the Aero Oilpull had a sort of sueded finish and wasn't great though it did fit in with the "aged" finish of the jacket.
It's easily as warm as the B3 and...
After many years of buying "Vintage" I discovered "Repro" and it was a revelation ...... but having moved full circle now I have to say that there is a place for both and I have both in my wardrobe.
With the exception of some of BK's offerings and JC's stuff modern "Repro's" aren't really...
ANJ-4 every time .....
1. Pockets
2. Design ( cuffs, armpits, zip, pockets, bottom hem, collar are all superior on the ANJ-4)
3. Wearabillity ( especially in more flexible sheepskins like the Fenland skins used in the older Aero's and Eastmans )
the B3 has a more classic look ( more down to...
There's a Bellstaff factory Outlet at Bicester Village and they have some really cool stuff. ( There's a Barbour Outlet there as well)
Their leathers aren't gonna win any prizes for durability or materials abut they seem well made fashion jackets. The Waxed Cottons are as durable as ever and...
They stopped making them after the 2013 tour.
I know some of the guys at Showtime and persuaded them to give permission for Vanson ( through Kim at Vanson) to make one last one ... which turned out too small ( but only just). Vanson then agreed to produce a custom fit one and after providing...
I've had 2 unlined jackets ... one unlined " welders jacket" in roughout steerhide and a levis "jean jacket" in steer suede.
Both have been absolutely fine to take on and off ( no grabbing or anything ... even when a little sticky in 70deg in the USA ( where I bought the Levis). The "welders...
If he has, that might be worth a few quid :) ... and ask him if he's still got the bike jacket .. it's was awesome :)
I don't doubt there were numerous who wore "The Highwayman" ... it is a cool as feck jacket :D .. and you can find the odd pic if you search. BUT, I'd suggest that the the...
Great info Holly .. I know Roddy Frame of Aztec Camera had one .. but I thought he got his in the 90's.
I guess it was the sign of getting signed and having a few extra pounds in the pocket :)
Ha Ha ..... fat advance .... could be .... never made any real money making music and made more cash as a student doing mobile discos than playing in bands ( £100 between 5 isn't life changing TBH :) )
Regards Hipsway etc. and a 1950's vibe .... Indeed they were ( sort of) but it was more...
Not sure it really was .... the "perfecto style" bike jacket was all I really saw playing in bands in the 80's ( I had 2 .. a "Kett" and bought from the Army Navy Stores in the Gallowgate for about £40 and I covered front lapels in pin on badges ( you had to be there .. and had to be playing a...
I had two mascots back in the 80's .... Both bike jackets and both purchased in Glasgows famous "paddys market" which was a treasure trove for 2nd hand clothing if you were a rocker, **** or mod ( and much cheaper than flip etc.)
The jackets were made of sheepskin and some of the inner...
