So there I was merrily browsing Ebay on a Sunday evening when I happened upon a Ralph Lauren "Sample" ....... made in China .... but as I looked at it there was a dawning realisation that this was a replica of the famed "Alaskan Reindeer" jacket ( P72 of Rin Tanaka MJACOLD) by Buttnicks...
I see SB are doing one on their Facebook page ... https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1720653784876461&set=a.1629023410706166.1073741831.100007955673844&type=3&theater
Don't know about the BK or the Block Bilt .... but the last one is the SB "Oakland" and it's been around from the early Alexander days .. I've got a customised version without the D-pocket and copying the pocket angle and collar of an original SB jacket .... the more the merrier though, keeps...
I'd have the VDR over the Highwayman EVERY day of the week ( nothing wrong with the Highwayman it just has far more limited application than the VDR ) .... A longer jacket can be worn in a smart and casual setting, is happily at home with jeans or a shirt and tie, it can be layered or used as...
That VDR truely was the mohemoth of jackets ... brown FQHH I tried to break it in over about 4 years ... It felt great originally, REALLY heavy, became quite tiring to wear after a really short time and in cold weather stiffened up horribly so much so that I could hardly bend my arms. It did...
I'm a big fan of longer jackets .. the Aero VDR ( Veste De Rallye), Alexander/SB Levant, Aero LHB and Schott 740N in leather being favourites of mine for many years.
I've owned a few including :
Aero VDR x 5 ( 42's and 44's) in FQHH and Steer ... seriously tough jackets and almost unbreakable...
I've had 4 .. a Lost Worlds (2006) and three Schott 740's ( early 00's) ... all GREAT jackets. The Lost Worlds was a fabulous piece of work but was a little big at a 44" ( it was cut very generous) so it got moved on, I'd buy a 42" in a heartbeat. The Schotts are GREAT jackets and can readilly...
Nice simple jacket and a GREAT price for CXL ( both the #8 and the Natural) ... should age well and the lack of zippers is no bad thing ( I'd suggest that getting rid of the chest pocket would simplify even further and remove an item that many NEVER use - myself included)
Would be interesting...
For winter and commuting I wear Rukka Cordura trousers with full D3O armour ...... warm, waterproof, protective and light.
Spring - I generally wear either my "Scott" Made to Measure leather trousers or my rukkas without the winter lining.
If it's Summer or it's really warm ( Spain /...
I'm in doubt .... :)
I think that's a different website Sloanie .... I think the one being talked about in www.block-bilt.com.
www.blockbilt.com doesn't give any website and certainly not the one selling leather jackets .....
I have to say .. I miss Schitzo ( Roscoe) , good luck if it is him...
If they're in Bedford they're just up the road from me ... Incidentally it's not me :)
Equally I'm not convinced its SB/AL either I think they're more into collaborations and delivering their own brand than trying to deliver a competitor brand ... That would make no sense.
Might buy one just...
Size 8/10 ( on a Vanson more 10 than 8) ...... Riri are amongst the finest modern zippers in the world and these are now my zipper of choice ..... but Talon are more In keeping with the Vanson Jacket. HTH
Nice Fit Ton .... and a nice jacket .... I've had 3 Detroits ( One heavily modified, One Bison and One Steerhide .. the first jacket I purchased from Alexanders). I've also had 2 Aero Bootleggers ( previous management and both purchased 2nd hand) .... the early W collar, non M/C styles are...
I've bought several jackets directly from Stu ( all through the website) with no issues at all ..... 2 delivered to the USA ( B-3 and Bike Jacket ) and 2 delivered to the UK ( both Suburbans).
His jackets are outstanding ( I've had 9 In total ) his shearlings amongst the best around .... the...
IMHO the D-1 is possibly the most practical 4 season jacket available and it's simple styling and light weight 1/4" shearling coupled with zip closure pockets ( if you can put up with the way they feel on the back of the hands) make it practical, light, warm ( for all but the harshest winter...
2006/7 Edward ... Derek was asked :)
Super Jacket Carlos .. hope she likes it. Wish I'd kept my Monza .... and the 38" chest and 28" waist which went with it :)
