No really .. my leather jacket collection isn't limited to Aero Sloanie .... all are welcome, most get worn and some hang around, few stay ........ Those that do are the ones I currently like the most :)
I've had / have a number of Alexander / SB jackets ... and have one currently on order.
I've had / have a number of Aero jackets ( during and post Will Lauder era)
I've had / Have a number of Lost Worlds jackets
I've had / have a number of Eastman jackets
I've had / have Vanson jackets
I've had...
A. Yup ... just not in the Motorcycle Arena .... and I'm sure Ken and Denny did !
B. That wasn't the point you made ... though the jacket certainly is fanboyish .. and fangirlish ... it is by definition a fan product sold to errr .... fans. :) Besides I suspect most of the buyers didn't find...
While I love the idea of an Irvine ( I've owned many ) I just never get past one major issue with them ( for me) ....... pockets ( or the lack thereof) .
The D-1 is a far more practical jacket IMHO for a number of reasons ....
1. Pockets ( for putting your hands and stuff in )
2. It has a far...
Gotta say I agree .... I'm also not a big fan of the logo, it's big and it's bold but it's a bit out of place on a motorcycle Jumper TBH ! I know Harley Davidson, Langlitz and Ace Café have done similar in the past but they are specifically heritage players in the Motorcycle Space. Equally the...
I have an older Aero D-1 ( I've had 3 x Aeros and 2 x Eastmans .... the best all round 3 season shearling there is ) have had numerous B-6's ( 1 x Eastman, 2 x Aero's ) .... and for winter warmth vs the lighter shearlings... Down wins every time ( cost / weight / performance ) .. the shearlings...
The Brarnstormer is a heavy beast and shearling lined it's even heavier .. I've had a number of Barnstormers and have kept only one - a steer hide Black one ( from the Thunderbay Range ) with red check blanket lining. It's plenty warm and much more flexible than the FQHH. Great jacket and plenty...
I've had Aero and Eastman ... and still have Eastman. There was nothing "wrong" with the Aero ones ... the Eastmans just fit and felt better ( Eastman size 9 ) .... the goatskin on both was good, the Aero's were just a little strange on my hands ( longer fingers / thumb than the Eastman ) and...
It's still a closer match than the Northeaster ..... do Aero still make this "Hercules" .. oh and you do know where the "Hercules" name came from Sloanie ... right ?
I'm probably still on the roomier side on here .. and probably always will be ...... I know what I like, and I like what I know :)
I'll leave the Johnny (Ramone) fit to Johnny.
It's probably nearer to the SB Spiegel ... which I'm sure they'd be happy to do without the flap pockets. ( not a thread hijack .. or an advert fro SB .... just thought it was closer to the Belstaff )
This is an SB / AL custom .... in Horween No. 8 ( Burgundy) "Warhawk" horsehide ... basically CXL without the hand glazing and with a gentle tumbling ( not my definition - Horween's)
It started like as an Oakland ... but had the collar modified ( more peaked lapels), pockets changed (...
I use a std. micrometer ... it has a little torque set tension screw ( that way I get a constant tension every time ).
The hardest part is finding a piece of leather of single thickness to measure :(
True .. if you want gasket leather then go with FQHH ( that was it's original purpose ... for making leather gaskets for pipes )
I have a Raiders jacket by Wested in Goat and it has lower stitch rate and thinner thread than my Aero and SB jackets but has been no less robust and is my go-to...
I find phone is better than email as a medium for communicating ( which I then confirm with email ) ... though one day for reply is pretty good in the repro jacket world TBH !
I normally speak directly to either Debs or Steve ( both of whom I have had no issues with whatsoever )
Not sure SB...
I've had a few custom jackets from SB and all of them have been excellent TBH .... easily on a par with any of the retro manufacturers. From custom linings, trim, pocket redesigns, custom back designs to some very heavily modified jackets.
I've also designed a couple myself ( Adventurer etc. )...
I have had both cloth ( cotton drill and corduroy ) and leather lined button cuffs. I don't usually wear a watch ( not since I got a mobile phone :) ). Observations as follows :
1. The button cuff is more cumbersome than the std. American Cuff but has the option that it can be unbuttoned ...
Never had a pair of Langlitz trousers .... but I'd imagine they'd be superbly made if my ( now moved on ) Langlitz jacket was anything to go by.
I had a pair of Aero's 5 pocket jeans and also a pair of their M/C trousers ... both in FQHH. These were substantial trousers to say the least (...
