Was wondering same, Brent. Guess I figured this is similar to panamas and other weaved hats that are made outside the US and sometimes sold under recognizable labels. Also looking forward to seeing what quality felt was used.
Appears at least to be a "serious" hat .. nice looking sweat and bow.
It is most definitely possible to over do it with the iron and be left with an amoebaesque brim without rhyme or reason.
I know a guy that's done this before.
So go slow and check outcome along the way.
I had one of these last year. I forget name of outfit Bates made these for, pretty sure they were in upstate NY? But jacket seemed an exclusive for them and was in their catalog etc.

I've owned a bunch of Bates the past few years including these first two that actually don't fit great but I still can't bring myself to lose them. The black one is hands down the nicest CR of theirs I've had. The heaviest, thickest leather I've experienced on a Bates CR w/ really nice graining...
