I know I'm late on this reply, but in case this will help anyone: From what I've read, hairspray wasn't used until the late '40s (in the US, at least), so I think St. Louis may have been correct when she asked if it just didn't exist. This is the article where I found the picture of Bow Bridge in the '40s. It has lots of other pictures of Central Park in the 1940s... it would be interesting to compare it to Central Park today. As if we didn't chat about pin curls enough. . .
I do the sides of my head in pin curls facing toward my face, (pretty small, in rows, with about 15-20 on each side), and the back I do in about 5 rows of 2 or 3 curls that I just wrap around my finger, stick a bobby pin in the bottom, and pull my finger out. How many products do you use?
I don't use anything but shampoo on my hair ever- just water for setting. Hairspray wasn't used in the US until the very late '40s, and I like doing things the authentic mid-'40s way. Do you think it is sexy if a man dresses in Vintage clothes?
I won't use the word "sexy," but I do think every guy looks better in a suit- or at least a dress shirt and trousers. As far as I'm concerned, it was their biggest mistake to stop wearing them.- Swing Girl
