    Hurricane Irma

Yes. Having nice possessions in an area prone to landfalling hurricanes can be a pain in the behind. Every September I wonder why I own so much darn excess stuff. And, beginning in every November, I buy more. AF

    Autumnal Thoughts........

We're still ducking and dodging hurricanes here in eastern North Carolina. It's still not cool enough to wear long pants or lace-up shoes. Maybe sometime in the next couple of weeks we'll see a little "mullet shift" and I'll be digging in my closet for a hoodie and a pair of blue jeans. AF

    Show us your Guns!

Opening day with my 1914 Fox Sterlingworth. One hundred and three years young, she preformed flawlessly...and added some genuine class to a corn field filled with composite Benellis and Remingtons. AF

    Which is your favorite G-1?

Congratulations! A very nice jacket! AF

    Which is your favorite G-1?

I feel your pain. All of my G-1s are size 48. And I've just recently lost enough weight to wear them, again. I was big. Great big. The good news is, every time I walk into my closet, it's like Christmas morning. I actually found a nice 1963 Alpha MA-1, the other day, and I didn't know I...

    Which is your favorite G-1?

Oddly enough, VMF-513 started its life during WWII, at the Oak Grove Air Station in Jones County, North Carolina. Oak Grove Air Station is still a USMC Field, but it's now unmanned. It's located next door to our property. AF

    Which is your favorite G-1?

Thanks! As to your jacket...I think that Brill didn't become a contractor until the first of the D-series jackets in 1968. I may be wrong, but that's what I think I remember. Star Sportswear had a 1967 contract...and that was for C-series G-1s. I think Ralph Edwards did, too. Of course...

    Which is your favorite G-1?

Another of my favorites. A 1970 Brill D-series. And an old VMF(N)-513 patch. Now they're VMA-513 and based in Yuma. In my opinion, Brill Brothers G-1s have been given a bum rap by many collectors. I think the sketchy reputation came mainly because of their post Vietnam, E-series jackets...

    Show us your Guns!

I've got one in 12 gauge that I inherited from my grandfather when I was sixteen. For a long while, it was my only shotgun and I've hunted almost every type of game indigenous to North Carolina with it. Ducks, geese, quail, dove, deer, squirrel, rabbit, and maybe some other critters that I've...

    Which is your favorite G-1?

Trying to age a new piece of mouton may well prove to be an exercise in futility. The dyes used in the 1950s and 1960s were much less stable than those of today. Because of this, vintage mouton aged fairly quickly when exposed to UV light. New mouton...maybe not so much. Folks I know...

    New Product: ATF N-1

My new ATF N-1 arrived yesterday. I can't say how "accurate" of a reproduction the jacket is, because I've never owned or worn an original N-1. But I can tell you that it's a well made, high quality jacket that looks very much like originals I've seen in period photos. And it certainly is...

Denim Jackets - New or Vintage

I dragged another denim jacket out of storage. It's a Wrangler Wrange Coat from the 'seventies or 'eighties. I have to admit, I've never much liked this coat. Not sure why I bought it. Sure, it's warm and tough. But I don't like how it looks on me. I guess I've never seen myself as the...

What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

This morning, I tried on my 1967 Star Sportswear G-1. Yesterday morning, I tried on my 1992 Orchard A-2. Tomorrow, I might try on my 1961 Skyline MA-1. Or maybe just an old deck jacket. The truth is, the daytime air temperature in eastern North Carolina has been averaging in the high...

    New Product: ATF N-1

I think he knows his market very well. I'm guessing it's mostly reenactors who need accurate but affordable kit with which to pursue their hobby. And...to a lesser degree...folks like me who prefer originals and are generally unwilling to pay nose bleed prices for high-end reproductions. AF

    New Product: ATF N-1

Hi Peacoat...I'm not sure what material is used in the lining. They just say it's "artificial" and isn't alpaca like the originals. This from the site. "Reproduction of the iconic WWII Navy N1 Deck Jacket. Like all of our uniforms, we started with several authentic examples from the War, in a...

    New Product: ATF N-1

At The Front has just introduced this jacket. It's their version of the USN N-1...and through tomorrow, it's their "Deal of the Day". Loving deck jackets as I do, I couldn't resist. I immediately pulled the trigger. The lining is synthetic, but the shell is jungle cloth...and I have no doubt...

Denim Jackets - New or Vintage

Thank you! And the great thing is, I've lost a few pounds and it fits me again. I'm looking forward to wearing it this fall. I don't know much about these jackets. I bought this one used and wore it until I outgrew it. Not even sure what decade it comes from. The 1980s, maybe? AF

Denim Jackets - New or Vintage

Yesterday, I went digging in my storage room, looking for this. My old Levi's Trucker with Buffalo Plaid lining. Much warmer than a unlined Trucker. AF
