Good advice! :)
It's a boxy cut by design, going down a size will make it a neater fit, but its not designed to be worn slim, so this should be kept in mind when ordering.
We don't agree that the Highwayman is sized two sizes too large, its a 1950s cut designed to be worn loose. If you're interested in ordering a Highwayman from us write to us and we'll help advise on sizing, and we can discuss what kind of fit you're looking for.
I'm reliably informed (it's before I can remember for myself) that these bands all did wear the Highwayman around that time, aside from Lloyd Cold, Hispway and Love & Money (see photo) it was also worn by the Jesus & Mary Chain, Deacon Blue, The Rezillos, Goodbye Mr Mackenzie and, erm... Wet Wet...
Well, I really can't comment on what leather other makers use, but I would hazard a guess that AL haven't strayed too far from our pre-2012 sources for some of their stock! We've taken on the motto of 'onwards and upwards', and will never stop looking to improve materials. Our old goatskin was...
Actually, we've now got what we feel is a much superior goatskin, since early 2014 ours has come from a new Tannery and is made exclusively for Aero :)
Oh, and I'd definitely echo the advice not to touch the jacket with any conditioners! On occasion we get exchanges of jackets that have been loaded up with them, and they always feel odd. You shouldn't need to do anything to your jacket for decades - if ever!

A lot of the stiffness in Chromexcel Horsehide is due to the wax used in the tanning process, and the stiffness isn't helped by cold weather. It’s a good idea to leave the jacket somewhere warm overnight, that will soften the leather noticeably and make the jacket warm and ready for a cold...
Hi Everyone! There seems to have been a mistake with the listing of this one... it's been fixed now! Thanks for alerting us :)
Hope you all have a great Christmas.

No problem :)
The earliest zippers used by Aero were unmarked British ones, cheapies I guess, with the sliders swapped to the American side and often re-fitted with old stock Talon or Conmar sliders. These were used exclusively from 1981-84 and occasionally until around 1986. Then we moved on...
We've been making Bike Jackets since 1984 but this one is several years later, and actually the Ailee zippers were regularly used between 85 and 87, with the odd ones still being fitted as late as 1989.
As for the label, this was Aero’s third cloth label, following the original text only...
Jacket is an Aero, from around 1986/87. The painting was done by one of our artists :)
There were three slightly different backs done to replicate a wartime photo of three 8th AF crew wearing their PPM jackets. Most went to Japan. I'm afraid we've no idea about the label tho, its unlikely we...
The jacket you've asked about is actually made from what we'd call 'Grade 2 CXFQHH', we don't usually use this (except for Blue Label jackets,ie discounted jackets). This is Horsehide with belly lines and stretch marks, hence slight Zebra effect and the darker lines. When they're new these...
I know people have been interested in how this would wear, this is a near identical suede shown on a 60 year old jacket - as long as you care for your suede it can wear very well...
Here's a couple of close up pics I see you were after....
It's veg tanned, and absolutely beautiful. We've put a wee news story up about the new leather as we're so pleased with it. Full info over here - http://aeroleatherclothing.com/news-detail.php?id=156
