I use lanolin on dry leather. A tiny tiny bit goes a long way, and it's super easy to use too much, but it gets DEEP to soften dry leather. This is only on old drying out items, not a "yearly ritual” or anything. For normal yearly care I use Snoseal.
I've been thinking more and more about learning my way around my Singer Featherweight. It's really funny you mention sewing, as I was just looking through patterns today!
Being able to make my own garments or even repair my vintage stuff would be great. Save me a lot of internet hunting!
I can’t get over this was found in a thrift store…
I wonder if it is a a war time jacket, it looks like the belt eyelets were sewn instead of using metal grommets, could be a brass conservation measure.
I'm for laced jackets. I think the look is classic, laces have been used to adjust the width of sports clothing for a LONG time before elastic stretch pannels were invented. And functionally even the Vanson Sports rider jackets have velcro waist adjustment. You need something to accomodate...
I haven’t ordered a custom jacket, but I do have a customized Gus Trim sword. I practice HEMA and I have a few cutting blades. This was a piece I had really dreamed about for years before having it built up. I think the original quoted wait time was 6 months, but it could have been 4 or 5. The...
If you're into milsurp the US Army M1951 wool trousers are high waisted whipcord wool pants. They're only slightly thicker than dress wool, thinner than denim. They're great for fall and winter. Any color you wamt as long as it's Olive Drab.
Oh! And I have a few pair of British Army "Barracks...
I REALLY like the fit you have in that jacket. It fits like a uniform from an old flight crew photo, rather than a modern fitted custom, and I think it adds a lot to whole look.
I’m round shaped and I truly think a classic double rider/cross zip/ Brando jacket works the best. The lapels give weight and breadth to your chest and shoulders, while the belt cinches in your waist. Well, my waist!
I can post pictures in a minute to show what I mean.
Also a good option is...
I had a Vanson C2 in this grey pass through my hands at one point. It was a BEAUTIFUL Coat, but ultimately I passed it on because of a big Harley Davidson eagle that I thought I could live with but ultimately couldn't. It's a great color.
Vanson offered the sport riders with bands of color...
Ah you’re clearly just jealous of my stylish balboa!
If I'm ever invited to an 80's party I'm all set!
I go back and forth on this jacket, actually. The style is SO dated I kinda think it's ironically cool. It's warm and very comfortable, the leather is that old Vanson comp that feels like...
When I got my Vanson Highwayman the right side lapel, the part that ends up under the zipper when fully closed, had some weird creasing in it, rather from the way it was stored or maybe shipping.
I tried to wear it flat but no success.
What worked great was running some water into...
SUPER nice!!
I have two from ‘68 that must have shrunk while in the closet… 46 is a harder to come by size! Been on the look out for a 44 on the Bay, on and off, I still hope to whittle my self back down, but enough to see most are in the 38 and 40 sizes, with a few 42s in the mix.
Love that...
I've visited the factory in Mass back when I lived on Cape Cod, and I think I've figured out the wait times. They're such a small set up, they have to be building coats in batches on a preset schedule. That explains why it can vary from two weeks wait to 14 months wait. You put in the work...
Doesn’t this just say you deserve bespoke? Nothing about them making bespoke jackets, custom yes, but not bespoke. Like fruit juice is “made from 100% real juice” and juice drinks are “made with 100% fruit juice” as in, ten percent of this product is 100% pure orange juice while the other 90% is...
On the first page of the thread someone mentioned all the specialty stores had been replaced by Malls, and while they’re are some malls left they’re certainly becoming abandoned as anchor stores have been closing down. Sears, Bed Bath and Beyond, and Party City look like they’re shuttering this...
