I pushed a diamond into this tawny fawn Fed yesterday. The center dent wasn't working for me anymore.
Today I'm gonna work on softening up the brim break. I'll post if there's a difference I like.

Oh, I'll certainly agree with you regarding the feel of vintage felt vs Akubra felt.
But I do get a similar degree of satisfaction using water. The felt is so easy to manipulate when it's wet. And unlike steaming, I have all kinds of time to get it right.

I have decided not to remove the reed.
I pulled it out about a inch and felt the the bottom edge of the small piece of leather that was now reedless. It was no softer or more forgiving than before. I cut off the inch or exposed wire and will let it all be.
