1900's Stetson Low Crown Fedora (The Fray Sweatband)
Here's an interesting one.....I have seen low crowned Stetsons before but this one is very low at 4 1/2 inches open crown. This hat is a very light dress weight and the edge binding is the same type and quality as the bow, so I am 99%...
I have to wonder if this renovation was done by Hat Corp of America. As a lover of vintage musical instruments as well, I have seen Gibson and Fender "altered" factory editions of instruments. The alterations were done very well by the manufacture, but differed from the factory edition based on...
They are by far the finest hats ever made by an American company (Knox 100, Dobbs 100, etc).....about 10 times better than the Stetson 100. Trust me when I say that hat is worth every bit of $500. The felt is unlike anything you have ever handled and even though its 100% beaver, its so dense and...
I just received this, and I am SO EXCITED to have the original!!! I wanted to scan in copies for everyone on the lounge. The scans honestly don't do this circular any justice. The actual paper measures 18.5 x 12 and the print is absolutely masterful. What is amazing about this circular is that...

I just noticed this....that printing block could be several stetson models, but based on the double dent (front and rear), bound brim, and bow style, that looks like the Stetson Pacemaker.
Looks like a perfect match!
They do share much in common. A super high crowned (square) derby and top hat are about 95% similar. I have owned high crowned derbies that were very tall, but still had a round derby crown. I have also owned derbies that had extremely straight and square crowns that were very difficult to tell...
It really does look like several felt top hats that I own. With a crown at 5 1/2, it definitely could be a high crowned derby, but it could also be a top hat as well. I guess a very flat topped, square crowned derby is essentially a top hat. I would probably call that a topper.
I looked up...
Fantastic high crowned, flat topped stiff hat. How tall is the crown?
I tossed my hat into the bidding for that one, guess I know who the winning bidder was. :-)
Does anyone know a supplier that sells black and brown Bias Reed Tape for making sweatbands? I have searched and searched and can not find it anywhere. It usually comes on a roll.
What I am looking for is the roll of tape in this photo:
I honestly have no idea why. I have tried everything to fix the links and they still redirect to a 3rd party site. It must be an Etsy thing. I think etsy makes people pay to promote off their site. I will just remove the links.
