Thanks! Yes, it's a dark brown with a black ribbon.
Thanks! The beaver felt on this one was easy to work with. It was a good hat for my first open crown - gave me the confidence to tackle the stiffer ones that came my way later.
Thank you!
Wearing my NW Hats today. I had Mike make this three years ago, when I was young in hat-wearing and convinced I needed a 2 1/4-inch brim. If it were today, I would have had him make the proportions a bit more generous. Still, it remains one of my favorite hats. It also was the first open crown I...
Totally agree, Jim. I have a vintage Champ from the '40s. I set it next to my Akubra Fedora and am hard-pressed to tell them apart. Same sized crowns and brims. The Fedora's taper is looks on par with the Champ's.
That said, I agree with the others on the Stetsonian. Best production hat I own...
Glad you mentioned the Fedora, Corky. It's not heresy with me. I love mine, and I think the felt is almost vintage quality. I'm thinking of getting another.
I was going to ask if anyone had any experience with the excellent quality. Another review I read here awhile back said it was vintage...
I love my Stetsonian. The dimensions are classic and the construction is great. But it also costs a lot more than the Fed IV, which still is a great production hat. If you have a budget below $200 for a production hat, Fed IV is still the choice in my book.
I echo what others are saying here. My Fed IV is one of my go-to hats in the rain and snow. The other one is my Akubra Campdraft. They are made to handle any weather. I haven't noticed any tapering. I just hang 'em up wet on a hatrack in the basement and they're good to go the next day, no worse...
Just won this gorgeous Resistol from Miamibruno on the 'bay. 2 3/8 brim, 5 1/2 crown, kitten finish. Cost $11.95 in the '50s. Love it.

My Balmoral, purchased last spring from Hats Direct, has a leather sweat. Just rechecked the ad on their website. It says leather sweat. Maybe you should contact them.
