JL had to remove almost 4" in width to get it to this shape, so I'm glad it's not as baggy as it was when I first received it.
The other Cal I'm getting fixed up has the same massive arms and armholes so it's probably going to look similar to this after they slim it up
Definitely shouldn't work on me but surprisingly it does seem to work. The excess leather is mostly on the upper/middle back which is good because I can't see that part lol
Here's a photo of the back with the jacket unzipped. When I try to zip it up, the middle and lower back has the leather...
It feels like a size 42 on the shoulder at 19", almost 2" too wide on me. It's 23" pit to pit, so around 4" too wide in the chest. The bottom hem is absurdly small even for me at 17", i can't really wear it zipped up (aside from taking photos lol) because i might rip the zipper tape.
With that...
Cross post to the WJAYWT thread.
Picked up my Cal that needed alteration over at JL. The sleeves were tapered and shortened. The armholes were too big so they couldn't slim the biceps/elbow all the way as it would have looked off. Happy with how this turned out, this is wearable now. I also...
I think it's a cool Aero, haven't seen an Aero with that Talon before. Good thing it won't work for me as this would definitely look better with a mouton as with all jacket goes for me lol
Winner! That's awesome, love the clean front and mouton. This back design looks so clean, with the false half belt being placed lower and slightly thinner makes all the difference. Can't wait to see the next one
Got it, so Shinki is easier to understand because they just name the leather for how it's tanned/finished compared to Horween that has different names (CXL/Essex/Dublin/Vermont/Milan etc etc) for their different lines of leather.
I have the FL brown/black full aniline shinki and I think they...
Super nice! I heard that Aero didn't use Badalassi before because it was too thick so they had it reworked and now it's a popular choice.
Where is this bad boy bound? I'm sure it is easy for makers to get this skived to the desired thickness.
Like at @handymike said it was a movie prop then had a small production batch for the public. Mine is a size 38 but feels like a 36. The leather is dyed black all the way through, it's really matte and kinda grayish black to my eyes so I'll probably dye it at some point. Too bad it has some...
He sent me a follow up email, no disclosure of measurements though. He did guarantee a perfect fit so maybe it will be just that but looks like I'll just know when it gets delivered to me whenever that will be.
That's a pretty narrow selection, the RMC Nelson looks great and tick all the boxes maybe apart from the hardware. You can get the collared/non zip hand pocket/1 piece back/button cuff/black leather/riri m8 main zip/widened shoulder in a jacket although not the Japan made part if you go Thedi.
The fit is perfect for your build and vintage style so it makes sense to keep the jacket. The jacket being made out of deerskin is also a big plus in comfort and year round wearability down SoCal. How about some new pair boots to match the jacket? Its kinda similar to the deerskin john lofgren...
@dudewuttheheck the fit looks phenomenal, I get what you mean with how lackluster the hide is compared to your other jackets but hopefully you keep it long enough you can see the redtones that you like so much. The details of that jacket is beautiful. Congratulations
