We didnt charge any extra fees for the hats . The biggest problem is getting the company to make a single hat for us. People ask us all of the time to make custom hat . If its a standard color, no problem. When the colors are light colors such as white, then we have to wait until the machines...
We ended up supplying the shpw with two custom made Beaver Borsalino hats. Mr Spader is very particular (or maybe it was the designer!) about the hat. It had to be 2 inches in brim width . The problems that come along is that colors can vary from time to time escepialy in the Gray selection. But...
I think Florida has a couple of decent hat stores. I heard you were a good salesman. Its hard to find people who enjoy long work hours and who like selling hats!!!
I was surprised to find out that Olney still makes a boater hat. I was under the impression that Florence was the last manufacturer of them. The ones made in the USA are too flimsy .
That isn't the darkest blue that Borsalino offers. At one time we stocked a color called color 81 (pacifico) . It was so dark that we opted to go with color 41 mirtillo . However every batch comes in different.
Offray ribbons aren't the same as they used to be from years ago. Most of the companies that we sell hats from are using Italian bands. They look much blacker . It makes the hat sell better .
Borsalino hasn't sewn in their linings since 1986!! It is too costly . They do sewn in the linings only on one or two of their top quality hats such as the Icaro and Cervelt (deer felt) . The store in Italy can order any style in any quality such as 49, 32 or even 10 qualita superior.
Drdan I dont want to dissapoint you but that hat is not the same as a Traveler style that you would buy here in the USA. Most stores here use what is called 39 quality . That hat is Marengo quality or 49 . Look under the lining ang you will see a white sticker. Its not a bad hat ,but its not...
That Columbo lining has been used by Borsalino for years. We still use that liner on our Pesca (suede ) finish hats. What I found to be interesting was the first hat that had the cloth sweatband in the hat. Ive never seen one from the 1960's from an Italian hat store.
Borsalino sells a hat made from Vicuna. Its very soft. Their best hat is made from Deer felt in one color. It is called Cervelt. Its very soft. I haven't seen a mink felt hat in a long time but im sure it could be done. That would be the best fur that I could think of. I'm sure Fepsa could do it .
The hat was made when Bollman had the rights to import AND manufacture their own Borsalino hats . Today , Bollman is only acting as an importer and distributor. They cant make any hats in the USA using the Borsalino name.
