Popped in this thread to ask what TFLers in general use to wipe their jackets clean (without going to the cleaners, not a deep clean).
If I lived in a rural area or suburbia I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm in NYC, touching all kinds of dirty surfaces on a daily basis, and the girlfriend...
Here in NYC I'll wear a long wool coat on the coldest nights.
But we're having an unbelievably warm year so typically a leather jacket + sweater is plenty. With global warming getting worse every year the New York winters of old are prettymuch gone.
A lot of the photos on Greg’s timeline are really beautiful and interesting; apart from the $1500 jacket porn they give you a glimpse into the process of making a product the old-school way. I wish he kept an imgur or something besides Instagram where he could dump more photos.
I got 2 of the Eastman Skivvies in marine green, one in 42 and the other in 44.
I have a 41” chest and the 42 skivvy really fits like an undershirt (as Eastman intended). Not skintight but certainly smaller than a normal outer layer. Looks good under a leather jacket though.
The 44 is a...
Anyone got tips for fitting the Eastman Skivvy tee?
I just ordered it in 42 but I have a 41" chest, apparently I should've sized up. We'll see I guess. I wouldn't mind if it fit like an undershirt but if it's truly "second-skin" I'll probably have to unload it.
I have one of their t-shirts and I wear it all the time. I had never owned a tube or ringspun tee, so with free worldwide shipping I decided to give it a try.
L size is just like a normal American L out of the box. Hand of the fabric is soft and a bit thick, about like you'd expect from ringspun...
I have a Taylor Stitch cuyama and I got caught in the rain a few weeks ago running errands in Manhattan. It got a good soaking for 2-3 hours. I noticed some of those “aero fit” kind of creases forming from collar to pit, seemed a little warped and I was amazed how long it felt wet afterwards...
Where is the front door in old German houses?
Typically we put the living room near the front of the house to make a nice impression for guests and passersby who look in the window. But the front door will usually open to a foyer or hallway, rarely the living room directly. American sitcoms...
My brother lives in Illinois, in a town with a lot of Sears catalog homes.
What's amazing to me is not just the build quality, but their architecture is so much better than the suburban tract houses that sprung up in the 1980s and 90s...
I appreciate Dave taking the time to address so many posts in this thread. The curse of forums/internet/social media is that the more he engages, the more he opens himself up to additional criticism from anyone looking to antagonize him.
You think Italy will open to non-EU folks like me this summer? The flights from New York have always been cheap.
Surely visiting leather shops is classified as essential business...
Schott 530 cowhide. Found a deal on EBay last week and thought I’d give it a shot (no pun intended).
I wasn’t a fan of cafe racers then I realized they’d be good under a wool overcoat cause they don’t have a big collar. This is my first Schott.
Yes, 100% for henleys. I never liked them until I realized I could unbutton the collar to let out body heat while I’m cycling. It’s easy to get soaked in sweat while cycling in cold weather if you wear the wrong thing. So henleys are common for cyclists.
I wear an off-white/unbleached white...
