So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

When I was going through chemo, I had a medical port placed in my upper chest with a tube directly to my heart. To access it, they would have me brace myself stiff (holding onto the arms of the chair) and then basically stab me in the chest with a needle the size of a ball point pen (The port...

I also have little modesty after cancer. I spent 39 sessions being placed with my upper half naked on a radiation table, with my body being adjusted by men who were 10 years younger and reasonably good looking. Although it amused me to no end when these young men woukd carefully adjust my gown...

    Guys In Girls' Garb

I need to find out if the company that makes those heels is still in business. I'd love to have heels I could jump in. My goodness.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

The college I went to as an undergrad used to have the pool gender segregated by time slot, and many swam naked... up until the (early) 1980s. In fact, naked swimming was one of the things most often pined about when I went to alumni events in late 90s. I do think they still had open swim (both...

Sears might be going belly up

It is the same here. The upscale mall (and hour away) was absolutely packed around Christmas. They have a Clarks shore store there, and after buying a pair of shoes I went and looked at some casual button-downs for my husband in a nearby store. They were quite nice, but on sale for $78, which...

My new life story and a word of warning

Any of the fat soluble vitamins can have dangerous impacts at too high a dose. People with pre-existing conditions (heart problems, liver problems, etc.) should consult with a doctor (either western or naturopathic) to find the best vitamin solution for their health. Also some forms of vitamins...

    Guys In Girls' Garb

This seems to be a more common phenmeon than today (men dressing in women's clothing for comedic purposes). When did it fall out of fashion? The only modern movie I can think of that makes this reference is Mrs. Doubtfire... and that's not recent. I can remember my father speaking about...

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

I've worked for a number of places that no longer cut checks. Direct deposit is it for employees. It takes away a primary reason to go to the bank if you don't need to deposit your check...

    Guys In Girls' Garb

I love babies in gray, black, and white. (White is totally impractical.) I made my daughter a few black outfits when she was a toddler and she was stunning. With our son, we chose not to find out the gender while I was pregnant. You have no idea how horrified this made people: "what if it's a...

    Guys In Girls' Garb

It's only recently, in my understanding, that young girls and boys had their gender codified in clothing. Most girls and boys wore dresses while in diapers. For good reason... cloth diapers are enough of a pain without having to take on and off pants. Small dresses are easier for the home...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I hope the growers find a reliable solution for greening soon. (Everything I've read says it will be a decade or more.)

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I didn't know about greening of the orange crops until 6 months ago when I researched why it was suddenly so difficult to find Orange juice from the US. (There's only one brand I've found so far locally that is 100% US sourced OJ.) Finding 100% USA sourced apple juice is similarly difficult.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

My parents once caught me doing this when I was a kid. Their mood was not... pleasant. (My parents would scoop out half the concentrate container and mix it up with twice the water. Then they'd put the other half of the container away for the next week... so I was essentially eating the next...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

I use frozen juice concentrate to sweeten a number of desserts I make. I too have noticed it's decrease in availability. I may have to someday learn to make my own... For now, I've found shopping at a groceryy store that older people shop at still carries concentrate. The little grocery store...

    HELP! Victory Roll Tips

I roll my hair around a clip (like is used to section hair for cutting). I then slide the clip out of the roll. Also, lots of hair spray applied to the hair section before rolling it up. It's a style best used on dirty hair that has had hair spray applied to it previous days and had some buildup.

    Things that make you smile

I let my kids run through the sprinkler when it gets hot. And yes, I let them do it in their underwear sometimes, rather than changing into their suits.

    Oumuamua

Isn't there some sort of quote like: "It's arrogant to believe that we're the only intelligent life in the universe. It's equally arrogant to believe that we're so important in the universe that other intelligent life would contact us." I swear I read something like that once, but google...

Vintage Things That Will NOT Disappear In Your Lifetime

Changing code to makes spaces more impairment friendly is a good idea. This doesn't affect existing structures (unless you update a large percentage of the home) but it does make sure new ones support aging in place. When people have falls or unable to live in their home, they often have to move...

    The 80s, myth and reality?

Ah, A-team. In the 1980s I think for those of us with Vietnam-era parents, Vietnam still looked rather large in it's ripple effects and in popular culture. Movies, homelessness, agent Orange and the cancer epidemic for those that served, the building of the memorial... all that was stuff I...
