Wow, I honestly never noticed an inside pocket zipper from the outside. Seriously, not even once in any of the jackets I have. They are tiny zippers and don't in any way push hard enough into the leather for me to be able to notice them. Maybe you misunderstood me, or maybe I misunderstood you...
Would anyone be able to post pictures of the inside of some of FiveStar's specific A2 and G1 jackets? I'm interested in the inside pockets, how many and approximately how large they are. It would greatly help me regarding the custom jacket I'm working on.
Ideally I would want two inner pockets...
To whom it may concern: I showed the two photos above to Shawn and he immediately concluded that what had appeared to me at first as a "double" layer is actually four layers (as was said earlier), so Monitor was spot on, quite impressive. :) So this jacket has 1,0 mm leather thickness. What type...
In addition to all the above... I'm fairly certain Monitor is right. :) If the "thinnest" layer I could find on the jacket is truly a double layer, and the other - what I initially thought was a double layer - is actually a quadruple layer... then it would appear that this is 1,0 mm leather...
Thank you very much. So according to this, would 1,3 mm goatskin be the absolute safest option then? The lowest risk, so to speak? I mean, if it's absolutely known to be soft and pliable, especially compared to steerhide, then this would seem like the best solution. And if so, is it possible to...
Thank you. I was really hoping for 1,3 mm because that is what Shawn had suggested to me before for the original. On the other hand, I also have some kind of weird feeling if I go all the way down to 1,0 mm. The 1,2 mm definitely seems like a reasonable option, but would 1,3 mm really be "too...
I really bought these calipers just for this purpose. Is there really no way to get a proper thickness measurement aside from guessing based on double/folded/triple layers?
Alright, thank you. So... if it's really tight at 1,6 mm at that part, and pretty much normal/relaxed at 1,8 mm, not showing any tightness/resistance when moving the calipers, you think that 1 mm for the original would be the best option?
Dang, I was absolutely sure I found the right area to take the measurement. Once again, for clarification purposes, here are three close ups of the part I measured, circled in red color...
Still the same opinion? I appreciate it.
OK, I got some thickness measurements with calipers, assuming I've done it correctly...
This following measurement was taken at an area of the jacket where there was clearly just a single layer of leather, and didn't catch any part of the inner lining either. It was hard to find a spot where to...
Interesting but probably irrelevant and unhelpful: I found two leather jackets on eBay that have the "zig zag" pattern similar to the original, although pretty much everything else is different, especially on the grey jacket. Both jackets are from the same brand, "Marc New York" or "Andrew...
That's interesting, thanks. Is there a big difference between cowhide and steerhide? Because 5Star suggested steerhide for the custom made one eventually.
Thank you. :D In my (warped) mind it's around 60-65% of what I wanted, which is totally fine, much more (and much better) than I expected. But it'll definitely help me reach the 80-90% I'm aiming for. Also definitely a jacket I'm going to keep, so even if I get a "closer one" / custom made...
In reference to the post above (#118), here are some photos below. :) It might look ridiculous to some (or most), but that's fine. This is an unusual project after all, lol.
Obviously several similarities but also plenty of significant differences as well. The most striking difference is the...
Update: The jacket posted a while ago by Guppy arrived today!
Well... I love it! :) Like... really love it! :D Not only because I'll be able to get better measurements for the custom jacket now, but because I'll also be able to wear it. It would appear the measurements posted by the website...
Lol this is true, I've experienced it myself when buying jackets online. :D Stuff that I wanted to fit normally, unlike the jacket in question. That's why buying "in person" is the way to go so you can try it on, but unfortunately for many things we're looking for, we can't buy in person.
And...
