No mystery there. I am often glad when I see something really cool which doesn't fit. Just means I won't be tempted to blow money on an umpteenth jacket I wont get a chance to wear anyway.
About what? There is fake everything from Belstaff to Omega watches. They even fake Seikos... Yours appears real, as per the advice from owners here. It's safe to assume you have bought well, unless you are looking for a cheap knock off?
Agree. Depending on the photo, the jacket is a dark brown verging on burgundy (cordovan?) and it is a beaten up 70 years old. I guess the dark brown steer-hide would achieve that look. The distressed stuff looks fake as. At one point that jacket was new. I would simply settle for that.
I agree Edward - re Aero. I think you can have an August back with a 30's halfbelt front, or whatever to get this look.
With Aero, I found the goat slightly heavier than Vicenza. Like Han I would probably go Five Stars for this in goat. The Five Stars goat would wear fairly quickly. Mine has...
Not for me. You see the point is, if I read it again tomorrow, I may find it no longer appeals. This happens to me and movies a lot when I re-watch them. "Favorite" isn't a permanent category.
And we mustn't forget Shaw had a virulent hated for William S too, calling the cult of Shakespeare, Bardoltary.
Wilde is certainly an appealing Victorian celebrity and used language delightfully, but I can probably live without his work (I prefer Huysman's Against Nature). Deathbed conversions...
That's a nice idea. And it was a funny line. Are you able to describe a couple of examples of how you can tell a jacket does this from new? Is it just in curves or can you only see it when on?
Mine too, apart from the sleeves, I even like the fit. Bill Kelso do the most accurate copy of this Californian - they had one on loan to copy. It's better than Tony Nowak's. That jacket is around 2.5oz by accounts I've read. Aero don't make this one but they have similar styles. You would need...
Not sure the 'scholarly lamp' sheds much light these days, but this variety of traditionalist opinion is fair enough. As to the epistemological foundations of 'truth' when it comes to enduring literature, you're a braver man than I Gunga Harp. On the matter of hating, no one hates like writers...
I hear Kelso was bought by the Ukrainian company that bought Belstaff from the Portuguese company, that bought it of the Italian company who bought it from the British. (just joking, sorry...)
A bit flowery for my taste but that's the common view about S, and all classics, really, that they endure because they are rich in enduring themes and can be readily reimagined by subsequent generations. There's some truth to that romantic view. I suspect the same thing can be said about Star...
I open my doors throughout the year for fresh air. I have never bought a perfumed air fresh product in my life. Disgusting smell that provokes nasal bleed. I have never used a dryer (not sure what a perfumed sheet is, but it sounds dire). I dry stuff on a rack inside when cold, on my balcony...
The thing about consumer goods is that people buy into a narrative, a 'perception' - and for some people "China" will see that narrative comes crashing down. But not for everyone.
I guess this is too small a sample to base a worldview on but I hear you. Some people just buy a brand and don't look further. They may well be disappointed to find 'China' printed there as this doesn't seem special or exclusive - if that's what they are going for. I wonder too if RL shoppers...
They may well be too heavy for your taste. They generally are for mine. I have a Viceza horse hide which is till a robust 2.5oz. More managable than 3oz, but still substantial. What you need to establish is what is the weight or thickness of the hide that you like. I think the S&J horse is...
Maybe. Clearly part of the Western cannon and of critical importance to civilization. However, I have read several of the plays and seen many performed live and seen a number movie adaptations and Shakespeare has made almost no impact on me at all, so who knows how you will take it? I enjoy some...
