Yes, one of my pet hates is the needless and artless modernisation of perfectly good houses so that they can look like even second person's idea of good taste. I once owned a 1927 apartment that had been untouched. It had black marble in the bathroom. The kitchen had metal cabinets. Left it all...
Looks pretty good to me. Nice not to have a waistband. Personally I don't like the look of waistbands on any jacket design, they kind of cut off or divide a nice clean design to me. Without a zip on the top pocket it helps to have the thiner piping along the pocket entry and angling it also...
Hardly a day goes by without someone I know not saying a line from this gem. I just came back from the country and was saying to a freind that - "we went on holiday by mistake."
My own experience suggests this is a fairly common thing to do. My friends and I used to quote from Raiders of the Lost Ark, Withnail and I, Monty Python films, Blade Runner, Citizen Kane, Bliss and many others. I've heard lots do this. I suspect the movie chosen says a lot about films you liked...
Mank had a particular and tendentious take on the Kane screenplay which is just one of many competing takes on the movie. It's not unlike the notorious 1971 Pauline Kael essay, Raising Kane, which worked very hard to take everything away from Welles.
For me Kane has a fairly dull story. The...
It will darken. But do you really want your boots to match your jacket? The boots are already in the correct tonal range to go together well with the jacket.
Best if you to find a solid artisanal jeweller. The stumbling block is they don't generally like you bringing your own precious metals. And having to build a mould that is compatible with the metal available can be difficult.
Nicely put and I guess that's my view. Everyone is different, but how a leather looks on a new jacket doesn't much interest me (unless it is appalling) what matters is the wear.
The untucked look is pretty old now - I certainly haven't tucked in a shirt or t-shirt since the mid 1980's. Neither have most of the guys I know. But I suspect this is down to taste and age. It probably looks least good if you wear an A2 or cross zip.
I don't carry much - keys, a small wallet, phone, pocket knife, glasses. Generally the pockets of my jacket are empty. Glasses in shirt pocket or inside jacket pocket, next to a phone. I also put my phone in my back pants pocket. If I have to carry gear I use a bag.
From what I have seen, in 1978 they did very close one (your version - generally in goat - and one with a two piece back. The ugly ones with the wide shoulders and maps were always better sellers. Go figure.
Here's a large one. Does it look like yours...
Looks like a 1978 version. There are still many of these around. Avirex (now Cockpit USA) have made many, many versions of the A2 since 1975 when they opened for business. Some closer to the real thing than others. I do remember people agreeing that there was a particular year or iteration that...
