So let's start with the M500 crosszip. The CXL has left a really deep imprint on my psyche at the time, so originally I specced Masaye, but even that I had my reservations, let's go even softer and lighter, simpler. So I perused their stock leather and jackets, at first I was going to use a...
Storytime and impressions.
TL;DR: I like them alot, lol.
So when I went down this weird road into jackets, the two jackets that really captured my imagination and sent me down the rabbit hole were the Aero Maxwell and Schott Raven. Not the usual suspects, but for some reason they resonated me...
Yeah, I was there just last week picking up my order. Looking busier than normal, they now have a sign saying they will only do alterations for jackets they made for instance.
It's funny because I was going to say that I met several riders who had their jackets since the 60s and 70s, and been through the ringer, and they've held up great. Drum dyed, ubiquitous black leather from any of the tried and true brands like Schott and Vanson, will outlast anything you can...
I think TFL is an interesting vacuum since alot here won't keep a jacket over the course of a lifetime. That said, I think this is a subject that can be easily over thought. Consider how many people buy a stock leather Schott, or Vanson, etc, and they've held up.
Of those three, I'd have to...
Apologies for the tangent. Back on topic, I grew up in warm climate so it was mostly shorts and t shirts for me. But everything I saw on tv, the cool guy/hero/etc would always be wearing a leather jacket. I watched a ton of Happy Days growing up, Fonz was the coolest. Also watched a ton of WWF...
As mentioned, half belt dresses up better. Not that the G1 can't, but this is a question of greater/less than, in which case half belt dresses up better.
The fabric portions and patchy nature of the G1 is what keeps it more casual for me. But it's all about your vibe, if you got that grizzled...
I'm def no tough guy so take this with a huge grain of salt. You are indeed absolutely right, there's no form points, no barred maneuvers, it's simply win or lose or get to safety. Herb Dean won't stop the fight because you kneed someone while one of their hands is on the ground. And yes, you...
The irony is that in a practical combative situation, the leather jacket is actually not a good thing, you might as well give a gun to anyone who knows how to grapple. Geez, and with lapels? It's why I wear good running shoes when I wear leather jackets, or in general, lol.
I ask myself the same question all the time as well. I'm not a particularly stylish person, don't ride anymore, and I prefer comfy practical clothing, pretty much the antithesis of wearing a leather jacket.
But, I tend to like heirloom potential products, especially stuff that collects patina...
While I'm not disagreeing that those are more in the fitted side, they are also wearing layers underneath and so have room to spare, heck one is casually playing baseball. I wish I knew what to Google to bring up old images of riveters and such that I've seen that wore jackets with alot more...
I've eluded to the "TFL Fit" in previous posts, which was a tailored, slim to skinny fit for jackets, which for many is not a functional fit. Sure it's great for static posing with arms at the side for doctored social media photos, but for dynamic reality, it's just not practical. Most people...
Nope, simple half belt, forgot if I did a flat or single point yoke... it a yoke at all lol, it'll be a surprise I guess lol, but I did add an action back though.
