I cannot read "kitten finish" and not picture kittens with sandpaper working on a hat

    Can I stiffen "Lite Felt"?

I have used that a lot. I mix it 1 part shellac and 3 parts dentured alcohol. apply outside as the residue is sticky and not easy to get clean. If it leaves the felt feeling sticky then follow with a denatured alcohol only spritz to "wash" the shellac inward.

How we might get past the "hat phase"

I answered the I don't care answer. I do not wear hats for an effect, I wear hats because most others here, I like them for ME. If you want to wear a hat please do and if you don't that is fine. If you wear hat because you think someone else wants you to then maybe you are doomed to fail. If...

    Western, anyone?

"I keep slowly easing out the 7” crown as my confidence grows with this proper western" Great looking hat, wear the stink out of it, it looks good on you. That museum was not on my radar but I will definitely put it on my list now.

I feel the same pain Soupman. They could have used all the Bear Bryant houndstooth plaid ones that they could find.

    Flattening Brim & Stitching Sweatband?

I am a doubter of felt damage from needle piercing felt. If the needle is sharp I don't see it cutting through hairs as much as dodging around them. Like what happens when you sew buttons on a shirt. I will say that I have had some long worn, heavily sweat stained hats torn in that area. They...

When was the C crown created?

When the hats is as nice as this one with a crease as classic as this one then being machine done doesn't bother me in the least. WOW! wider edge binding, medium to wide brim, wide ribbon fedoras are the epitome of classy headwear to me. This one exemplifies it. This hat would wear well with T...

    Vintage Hat Ads from Newspapers

Dave, Thanks BIG time for posting all these ads. What a peek into the past. I had never thought of beaver or rabbit or other content of the felts back then. The single ad with any mention of beaver is the MacLachlan ad for the 100 on sale for $50. The factory men's dress hats in the last few...

    Western, anyone?

I don't know. Them damned Duttons are always beating up, shooting up, wrecking up, or blowing up something all the time. Luckily they only do it for 10 episodes and then they lay off again for a year.

    The Stetson One-Hundred "100"

What a great find! I see your location is not listed. Great move concealing your town's name to avoids throngs of TFL members descending on the place going door to door harassing the citizenry to go comb their closets and attics for Holy Grail hats.

The hard-to-find or unusual Hat Circle

Fan clutch broke on a Chevy V8. A common action in the past when replacing V belts is to grab throttle and rev engine and make sure you don't get that slipping belt squeal. The fan and clutch unit moved forward and the blades of the fan screwed into the radiator but the hub detached and...

The hard-to-find or unusual Hat Circle

I still am very fond of my dentist in spite of some of the things I've had done. I had an accident 38 years ago that broke my mandible ( jaw bone) in two places and took out several teeth and damaged many more. I have had a slide hammer used to get reluctant temp crowns off, lots of crown...

The hard-to-find or unusual Hat Circle

Now this has me wondering if what have been called sales sample hats and gift certificate hats were man bun hats for one of the earlier man bun periods.

What hat are you waiting for today?

Yahoody, I'm so used to seeing you in great hats with more than one zip code. I can't even imagine a pork pie stingy brim on you. When I get something in error it never comes out as good as that one.

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I think the things that we share as members here is greater than what sets us apart. I like hats the way I like them and you are entitled to do the same. I do think the policy of "if you can't say something nice then say nothing at all" works well since our tastes in hats differ. I was...

Best Hat Store just north of Ft Worth stockyards has a few hundred on display. NRS just south of Decatur TX has a lot and is a huge seller of American Hat Company products.
