Better to spend the $850 -- the quality of the jacket is directly related to the price paid and, even with the identical jacket, if you pay more, you get a better quality product. ;)
For me, the quintessential grab-and-go is a hoodie.
I agree with others that leather has a presence and aura that I personally reserve for something more than a trip to Home Depot or Costco. It doesn't have to be a special event, but something beyond a grab-and-go outing.
