I read in one of my Bob books that they were concerned that pilots may have carried lucky charms or photos of loved ones in the jacket pockets and if they got shot down and captured the enemy could get info from them. I know that maps etc were tucked down in the top of the flying boots.
Dave.
Otter,
Well............I bid against you also. I waited till the last minute and stuck in my bid.
I feel bad now!! Lol.
And finishing an hour after the jacket was a beautiful pair of 36 pattern flying boots that I also won!
Cheers,
Dave.
Hi Tim,
Yes my two broken grain jackets were just like cardboard when I got them and as I've said really dry. Then recently buying the 2007 Eastman off Ebay that had been worn only twice, put back in the box and forgotten about after it's owner had given up smoking and put on a fair bit of...
Hi Deacon,
It's obviously going to be up to you whether you treat the new Eastman or not. At least if you do soften it you know that Pecards won't harrn the jacket in any way or change the colour which is what I was frightened of doing.
Cheers,
Dave.
Hi Smithy,
I totally agree with you if you have a 2007 Eastman. I have one and the fleece is nice and soft from new but the new broken grain jackets are really like cardboard out of the box and they do feel REALLY dry. I found after a coat of pecards that my broken grain jacket was a lot more...
Well at first I was scared to put anything on the jacket in case it changed the colour. Then I tried Liquid Leather that I got from Eastman but that didn't waterproof the jacket and I found when I got caught in a rain shower it soaked up water like a sponge. So then I tried Picards antique...
Hi Deacon,
Well I hope you will be pleased with it, I do love mine. I work at England's no1 touring theatre and last year an Actor named Joe McGann (well known in England) came out of the Stage door where I was waiting for a lift home. I was wearing my broken grain Eastman jacket and he raved...
Hi Deacon,
I have an early Eastman BoB Irvin which is really nice plus two broken grain jackets. The broken grain jackets after a couple of coats of Pecards look just like old originals. When straight out of the box however they feel really weird and like they are made of cardboard. I...
Well, when ever I Email Gary Eastman he always replies quite quickly so I'd give it a go. Also if I ring them about anything they are always very willing to chat. You don't get the impression that they are trying to get rid of you like some places. Best of luck anyway
Dave.
Hi capes,
Yes mine has the nylon feed and my broken grain jackets have brass ones. The seller also said that he used to repair original Irvins by hand years ago as part of his job. I found that really good cos he said that the Eastmans were really close to the originals.
Hi Capes,
I have just had a long conversation with the seller of my Ebay Irvin. He said he bought it over 15 years ago, wore it twice once for a flight in a Tiger Moth, gave up smoking, put on a bit of weight and the jacket wouldn't fit anymore. So it went back in it's box until the recent...
As I've said, as soon as I hear back from the seller I will post the year he bought it. I really think that Andrew will be your best bet for telling you its age. All I could say was we know it's before the broken grain ones. If you find out when Gary started the broken grain type that will give...
Thanks for that Andrew. That is the same as my labels in my early & broken grain jackets. Can you date these Eastman repros from their labels? They may have different labels they just put on, which would not give a date of the jacket? Capes jacket is a BoB Eastman but it does have a different...
All the labels on my jackets are the same and are different to yours. I know my eBay one is early-ish because of the softer leather and longer fleece. I have sent a text to my seller asking the year he bought it. So as soon as I hear I will post it here. My label has a crown with A.M below it in...
Right Capes,
If you go to Ebay, next to the search box is an advanced box. Click that and enter 181295896774 as the item number, my jacket will come up. Just click on the small pic that says ended through it and you can view all pictures.
I have just done it.
Cheers,
Dave.
Hi Capes,
I have no idea of the age of the jacket like yours but I will email the seller and ask him. I thought it was around 2007. I tried with the help of a guy here at work who is great with computers and no joy with posting the Pic. It's something to do with the administrator I believe. The...
