That's a sort of standard-size crown height with a typical fedora...4-4 1 1/2". In your pic/avatar, you seem to be wearing fairly 'high' on your head. Have you tried a different tilt, or size, or slightly wider brim? Because the crown height in your pic seems right, proportionate to what...

I tried something more radical, combining info I read here and in other threads: Reading that 1) hats seem to shrink over time 2) hats(felts) seem to take on/remember the shape which they dry 3) tips for drying a wet hat(from felt basics) I decided to take you advice one step...

How do you wet it..the sweatband and felt? With a spray bottle, using a sponge, or steam? And where would you get the felt strips?

Right. And I wouldn't be expecting anything other than a 'blank', since as Art said, hatmakers have to be careful and certainly wouldn't be putting their name on 'extra's. But now I'm rethinking the problem, since the problem seems to be the descrepencies with sizing, production hats. Fit too...

Well, there doesn't seem a lot of consistency in sizing as well on production hats. What happens if you find a really nice hat, say on ebay, it's your size, and then doesn't fit correctly? Stretching a bit seems plausable, but what if it's a little loose? The only option I see if mailing off...

Not as a replacement, but if needed for work/repair of other hats...re-sizing, etc. I've tried on 7 1/4's and 7 3/8's, both of which fit too small, too large, or just right. Same with 58's and 59's.

Multiple Questions ...and request for info/direction to the appropriate threads. Read hear a request for info on custom ribbon makers...presumably to find/create more options than what's available for a custom made. I'd like to add as well, a similar question... Is it appropriate to request...

    Poll/question - Brim width

Oh yeah! This group is a wonderful resource...beyond wonderful actually; divine! I'm still reading deep threads which have already answered so many questions. And I'm glad to see I'm not the only newbie:) I know I'll have questions, but it's comforting to see there's such a knowledge base here...

    Poll/question - Brim width

Good advice. Looking at the chart, I'd consider myself a #6(top heavy face, big forehead). And despite the fact I want the hat to look nice, I don't want it to overshadow completely, the casualness and comfort of dress(too bold a hat). Much like too-bold a tie would not complement a casual...

    Poll/question - Brim width

Presently, my collection includes straws only...(2 knockabout cuenca's, a Bailey's, a Borsalino, and 2 montecristis) except for a Tilley's(old). None of the straws have a brim width wider than about 2 3/4", and that's the way I like 'em. I have plans to re-block the widest brim monte to a...
