Had these rebuilt in February by Brian at Role Club. They began as standard, like-new 2268 steel-toe boots with silver hardware, size 12D. The steel was removed and the boots re-lasted on Role Club's 0-200 flat-toe last, '40s brass hardware added, and soles rebuilt from the ground up to a 13D...
Thanks, guys. I'm going to follow LouisBailie's lead, but if that doesn't I'll probably sell them. As much as I love them, I don't like feeling them every step I take.
ETA: Louis, what is that machine called?
I recently had a size 12 pair of Red Wing 2268 engineers rebuilt by Brian the Bootmaker of Role Club. I'm a true size 13, but a 12 in RW since they run a bit large, at least for me.
Anyway, he made mention after sizing me that it would be a close cut on them after the rebuild, and he...
Yep. He works his tail off so that's understandable. I couldn't be happier with the work and with the service. Blew away my expectations, and there's something to be said for that.
I will 100% vouch for this. If you guys recall I posted my like-new 2268s a couple weeks ago before I took them to Brian. Stole away V-Day weekend to L.A. and my first stop was the Role Club shop, just a few blocks from my old stomping grounds! Of all the custom work I've had done - guns...
You may very well be right. I think taking a pass was wise for my first pair of engineers - I'll get to play with these and get a better feel for what I want down the road, and then put the $ to a custom pair.
ETA: here's what I'm working with. Absolutely pumped to get these back in a month...
I agree with you 100%, which is why I was prepared to shell out the necessary $ to scoop the Lone Wolfs (Wolves? lol). I've also been tossing around semi-custom (I say "semi" because I wouldn't get the custom fitting) Wesco boots for over a year now, but two things dissuaded me:
(1) The wait...
After finding that Lone Wolf doesn't make a US 13, I found a killer deal on some RW2268s and contacted Brian the Bootmaker in Los Angeles to style them into these, with 40s repro brass roller buckles. All that and removing the steel toe I'll come out just under $500. Pretty damn good deal, IMO.
