I believe this is from a member here, as I think I saw him post that link. It's not a deal, but it is pretty rare in that color and quite cool looking.
Yes, it's my listing on ebay. It's priced as a "find" but it's a lot due to ebay fees. 13.5% commission, including the sales tax and shipping makes it closer to 15% which makes me almost not want to sell anything there.

When I posted it on the classifieds I did say I'd offer a special price to loungers on a off-bay deal. For a almost-new Octagon Vanson, a leather that is no longer made, I think it's worth a bit of a premium considering rarity and condition.

lol sorry just my term for vintage jackets with a destroyed topcoat
I like it. Do these top coats fail because of age, sun, oils? And I can imagine they don't fail uniformly like we would hope. How would one mitigate a quasi state? Additionally what are some of these top coats made from usually such as a schott non naked leather?

Very cool looking Vanson 4003, Size 34, approximately $450 USD.

I've never seen this pattern and while it's a small size, for the right person it would be fabulous - someone should jump on this.

The model in the last picture is wearing it small - I don't think he's able to zip it up but it still looks cool.
This is the second one of these that I've seen in leather. I have the other, it's a size 38 and too small for me, although I can squeeze into it, but it's made from some of the nicest comp weight leather I've ever handled.

According to Monitor, it's pattern is basically the VAJ-3, but with a different pocket layout, which I think is cooler.

They also make/made (?) this style in a textile version which I can't recall the name of that model.

It's a really cool jacket, but I can't imagine being so small that I could wear a 34. I'd love to find one in a size 42-44.

Thread from 2020 for mine, with additional info: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/help-me-id-this-vanson.102804/

I'm a solid size 36 and I couldn't zip it up - but the guy in the photo can't either and since it fits his shoulders he's still kinda able to pull off the look.

@Guppy thanks for the model information, again I've never seen it before but I like the stitching on the elbows and forearms, which I'm guessing could hold armour?

I'm not sure what the function of the sleeve stitching is but it doesn't seem to be for armor pockets. But armored would be a cool option for the model. The sleeves are very nicely formed to curve for a naturally comfortable riding position.

I like the narrowness of the sleeves - I find that larger sleeves don't look good on me.

Ahh, you're right @Guppy thank you. I must say that I like the Japanese pre-owned version better than the new piece on Vanson's website.

I don't know if Vanson is sourcing different hides but they look like two very different jackets even though they're the same pattern.
They have been -- the tannery that supplied them burned down and went out of business in 2017 or 2018. The leather they are calling "Comp weight" isn't the same as what they were using prior.

And Octagon is no longer offered, either, although apparently they are still selling something that they are calling Octagon on the Japanese Vanson site -- which is intriguing.

Materials do make a difference, and the exact same pattern can look very different in different leathers. Fit, materials, and craftsmanship are all essential to the final result. I haven't seen that many post-'18 jackets that I think are the equal to what they were producing before, but I haven't seen a lot of post-'18 jackets, period.

I still think they make a good jacket, and honestly their model photos on their website are really doing them no favors, and well the materials they're using now are different. Not necessarily bad or unsuitable, just different.

Vanson jackets look their best after being broken in thoroughly, and everything they show on their site is brand new, and I have no idea where they get their models from, but I think they're just regular Vanson employees wearing what they make, but are generally not well-fitting examples, and it's really impossible to tell just how good a Vanson jacket can really look by looking at the product pages of their website, which is a shame.

If they hired @ton312 to come out for a week or two and just shot him wearing his own closet of Vansons, it'd move a ton more product (pun thoroughly intended). They have an outstanding record and reputation through their support of professional racers, though, so I think that does enough to sell the product, and a lot of bikers don't want a pretty-boy fashion model look, they want practical riding gear, and they know what they're getting and don't need it to be "sold" to them.

@ton312 should be Vansons official model especially for the E. If I recall Tony has had like 15 different Model Es that somehow no matter the leather, color, accessories, or custom tweaks, he made look badass.
