55 Last Boot Sizing

Who owns shoes built on the 55 Last? How was the fit and sizing, compared to your Brannock size?





Nick's recommends going a half size down. Frank's recommends going a full size down, and up in width.








What do you gentlemen recommend?

If you look around the web, the general starting point for the 55 last is half size down in length, same width. This works for me. Everyone's feet are different though, so not everyone will necessarily find the best size for them this way.

Brannock size isn't the whole story because it measures only three points: heel to toe length, heel to ball of foot length, and width. So there's going to be some individual sizing differences even when two people may measure the same Brannock size, not to mention some personal preferences. For me, my toes are as wide as the width at the ball of my feet, and my toes can get irritated to the point of blisters when there's not enough width to accommodate them.

I think both Nicks and White's has sizing tables where you measure the length of your feet and the circumference of the ball of your feet to choose the size. Might be worth taking a look at those too.
