I watched again last even a 1960 film called "The Gallant Hours" staring James Gagney about Admiral William (Bull) Halsey focusing on the Battle of Guadalcanal, and ending in his retirement. An excellent film with good acting, and no fluff.
I have one for your consideration that you might have not heard of. "Tunes of Glory" is a 1960 film staring Alec Guinness and John Mills. You can find it on youtube, and I think it is one of Alec Guinness's best performances.
A dreary, cold and overcast day. Perfect day to spin some vintage discs on my Victrola X. Including some original Guy Lombardo 78s, also some Edison Diamond Discs on my Edison S-19
Ahoy Gents,
I can't rightly say that I'm wearing this today, but was wearing it recently in full proper formal Scottish regalia fly plaid and all!
I though that it might be fun and interesting to share with you folks as some of you might have never seen one before. The style of the hat is...
Yuletide Greetings,
I happen to have a hat horror story, that unlike yours, does not have a happy ending.
I was taking a siesta on one's sofa one Sunday afternoon two summers ago. In my dreams I hear this crunching sound and wonder what on earth it could be? I open one eye to see our 12 year...
Yuletide Greetings!,
Nice Bowler you have there. I have one from Lock & Co. Being founded in 1676, they are the worlds oldest hat shop. They list there's as a "Coke" as the first one was made for a Lord Coke.
Yuletide Greetings to Everyone,
Here is my favourite winter dress coat. It is my late Grandfather's Harris Tweed coat from the late 1940's. One giveaway of the age of the coat is the pocket watch pocket above the main pocket on the right. Delightfully warm and understated elegant coat.
Yuletide Greetings to All,
Being that it was just barely above twenty with gale force winds, I opted for my late grandfather's 1940's Harris Tweed coat that I had relined about twenty years ago. I made sure to tell the tailor to transfer over the makers label. One way one can tell how old the...
Dear Midlands Britannic Gentleman,
Thank you for you kind remarks. Yes, and I agree that it does have a timeless classic look, and only hints at it's true age if one has a discerning eye and notices the period pockets. I like to wear it this time of year with my Lock & Co Coke (See Below) when...
Good Evening Kind Sir,
There are several more buttons higher up, however I wanted you folks to be able to also see the liner. Another thing, when the coat is buttoned, you do not see the buttons, as they are hidden under the front overlaying flap.
