What's the Right Hat for fishing?

Find an old "beater" like this Marathon and make it yours. There is no "right" hat for fly fishing but you'll look like you a stooge with the wrong one (i.e. you'll look like you are trying too hard to look right).

A few entries for fly-fishing hat. The lighter green is a Dobbs Rainbow, I usually don't keep the feathers, but this one is actually a fly. Really too nice a hat for fishing, I think.

The darker green is a Stetson I think may have been a uniform hat, based on the color and thickness of the felt. I thougt the band and trout added something to it. Haven't fished much in many years, maybe have to take it up again.

I wear my fawn Akubra Camp Draft every time I fish, which is almost always with the long rod. Basically an Australian copy of the previously-mentioned Open Road. Highly recommended.

I wear an Akubra Angler for most outdoor pursuits, including fly fishing.
Great hat, vents well. I attached a chin strap - absolutely necessary for me.

I fish with a Dorian safari hat that my daughter found at a flea market years ago. It is made of a firm felt with a 3 1/4 brim and a 4 1/2 ventilated crown. I put a stampede cord on it for the winds that may come in Oklahoma, and will come in Colorado. I have spent many hot muggy nights wading for striped bass, cold snowy days trout fishing and all day freezing rain in Colorado. It as been dropped in the water at least a half dozen times and shows non the worse for wear.
It may not be the classic fly fishing hat but I don't know what more you could ask of one.

I really like that Rainbow. I'd love to find one like it.
