I've been debating picking up a shearling aviator jacket for awhile. I had purchased an Avirex B-3, but I wasn't happy with the cut, fit, or quality of the shearling. I returned it and came to The Fedora Lounge to look at what others had purchased. After seeing Gancho's Aero B-6, I knew I had to get one. The cut of the jacket, style, the color, and thickness of the shearling were solid for me. I contacted Wade and Carrie at Insurrection Performance/Thurston Brothers and they sent me a fit jacket right away. I normally wear a size 38 in all my jackets, 15" dress shirts, and slim-fit small sportshirts. When I got the fit jacket, I was a bit nervous because the 38 was really tight. But, Wade assured me the fit on the B-6 would be fine. He even got me in contact with another customer who was able to provide his measurements. I ultimately decided on the size 38 and Wade took the rest of my measurements. I ordered the jacket at the end of April.
Only 5 weeks after the order, Carrie let me know the jacket would be arriving soon. I was pinched on a vacation deadline and didn't want the jacket to arrive with no one home to sign for it. I talked with Carrie and she was able to get me the jacket before I left (a big thank you to that!). The jacket arrived at work and the office staff was eager to see my new jacket---I didn't stop talking about it after I ordered it.
I am extremely pleased with the result: the fit is spot-on, the shearling is the perfect thickness, and the cut/style is exactly what I wanted. Now, I begin the countdown to winter...okay, not so much. But, I'm looking forward to wearing at the end of this year.
And, without further ado, here are some pics! Sorry in advance for the grainy quality. My camera was almost dead. I can take more pics this weekend if anyone has requests.
I just had to put on a hat and sunglasses to make the look:
